Thank You Monterey St. Wines!
| Thank you to Monterey St. Wines for hosting a Spring Party! Even though the weather was a bit gloomy, everyone still had fun enjoying wine from Monterey St. Wines and Almesa Winery, delicious food from Popolo and music from Denis Degher (Sleepy Guitar Johnson). They are continuing their goal to raise
$1000, so this
week they will offer $5.00 glasses of wine at the bar and have a donation jar to collect $10 bills! Pictured above is Rick London with Patrick Faverty of Monterey St. Wines.

California Volunteers
| Rick London, United Way CEO, participated in the March 3-4, 2010 California Volunteers All-Hub Meeting in Sacramento. Rick attended the conference to learn more about the benefits and responsibilities for becoming a California Volunteer Center Hub. The Community CENTER at Cal Poly, United Way, RSVP, Peoples' Self-Help Housing, SLO County Community Foundation, Nonprofit Support Center and other organizations are working together to enhance the way SLO County manages our volunteer opportunities. There are currently 29 volunteer center hubs throughout California. Conference attendees had the opportunity to visit the California Museum, where Maria Shriver was hosting the Women's Conference.

National Poetry Month
| National Poetry Month is a month-long, national celebration of poetry
established by the Academy of American Poets. The concept is to widen
the attention of individuals and the media to the art of poetry, to
living poets, to our complex poetic heritage, and to poetry books and
journals of wide aesthetic range and concern. Enjoy this poem written by United Way supporters in 2009...
Mobilize and take a stand, Care to lend a helping hand. Build the blocks through education, Give to change our situation. Improving lives is our story, Choose the joy and not the glory. So in the end we all can say, We LIVE UNITED every day.
