Born Learning Trail
United Way of San Luis Obispo County, along with First Five Commission and Bank of America, will dedicate a Born Learning Trail in Mitchell Park on Saturday, August 2nd! This trail is designed to engage children, turning everyday outings into fun learning moments. The ten fun and colorful signs encourage early learning and participation from children and adults. We will have face painting, a bounce house, Dr. Nick the Balloonatic to create fun balloon animals, a fire truck and more! The San Luis Obispo Children's Museum will provide an art experience, and special guest Ivan Ulz will be on hand for a performance and the dedication of the new trail. Be there Saturday, August 2nd from 10 am to Noon. Mitchell Park is located within the city block surrounded by Santa Rosa, Pismo, Buchon and Osos Streets in San Luis Obispo. Learn more about Ivan Ulz at www.ivanulz.com or about Born Learning at www.bornlearning.org.

Nonprofit Business Savings Opportunity
We all know that local nonprofit agencies contribute so much to our quality of life on the Central Coast. In recognition of the need to minimize costs and maximize the earning potential of their funds, Mission Community Bank has created a checking account especially for nonprofits.

The NOW account offers free checking plus 3% APR with a yield of 3.04% to all 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) organizations. Community Club Non-Profit Checking is a unique program available exclusively for nonprofits. To find out more, call Sheri Curl at (805) 597-6127 or visit www.MissionCommunityBank.com.

By developing unique programs, local businesses do indeed support our local nonprofit community in ways that enable donors' dollars to go the furthest. Mission Community Bank developed its Community Club, a package of checking and premium interest rate financial services for businesses and individuals, in 2005.  Through the Club the bank has awarded five $5,000 grants to local nonprofit organizations each year since 2006.

Born Learning Quick Tips
At home: When cooking, encourage your child to help. For example, if a recipe calls for 3 eggs, ask her/him to get 3 eggs from the fridge. They will feel like they're helping and counting will help develop their math skills.

Turn chores like laundry into learning activities. Ask your child to identify colors, help you separate lights and darks, or count the number of socks. These activities will help build math and cooperation skills.

In the car: Rather than finding toys or DVD's to amuse and distract your child, use driving time to connect and enjoy being together.
