A Note From Steve McShane Pink

Greetings !!!

With November comes the start of the "Holiday Season."  Here at McShane's we take the holiday's very serious for the garden and home.

In the garden, I remind people to consider barks and mulches to feed your soil and protect against weeds.  I also recommend a winter garden as here along the Central Coast we enjoy year-round food production.  Finally, I always bring up the importance of "cleaning up" in the garden as leaves fall and summer flowers fade.  If you have not already started your compost pile, now is the time!

When it comes to the holiday's, McShane's has some really exciting things planned.  This coming November 20th, we have a huge "Holiday Lighting" event planned at the nursery.  tens of thousands of lights will come to life choreographed to music.  On that special day we will have non-profits, Santa and a number of fun events planned.  As in previous year's McShane's will have a wide array of Christmas Gifts, Nursery Quality Poinsettias and the highest quality Christmas Trees (at great prices) in the Central Coast.

We consider the relationship we have with our valued customers really important and want to thank the many of you that continue to choose and recommend a local business like McShane's during such a tough economy.  Here's to the joy of the holidays we all can enjoy ahead.

Sincerely,

Steve McShane

November Monthly Gardening Tips
  • Get cool-season annuals now! They need to be established before the winter weather sets in, get them in the ground before the end of the month. Plant six packs of pansies, primroses, snapdragons, or violas.
  • Do fruit tree maintenance this month by picking off all the old fruit and picking up the leaves that have fallen or any other debris.
  • Only spray trees to prevent diseases from preying on your fruit trees after all the leaves have fallen.
  • Remember to protect frost sensitive plants.

Notes from Our Departments
Nursery Department:
The Nursery is having a huge 30% off plant sale! The plants on sale are fruit trees, roses-climbers, shrubs, rose trees (but does not include Iceberg roses), one gallon perennials, and trees in general. The sale does not apply to annuals, 4 inch pots, or veggies. If you have any questions please call the nursery or stop by.

Rest assured, the Nursery will be ready for Christmas. Christmas trees, wreathes, garlands, and poinsettias orders are locked in for the Christmas season. These will be available the week of wreath Thanksgiving. Please feel free to call the Nursery to confirm these items are in.

McShane's is giving away $5.00 off coupons toward any Christmas tree when you make a purchase. A limited amount of coupons will be given out, so come see us soon.

In other news: McShane's is the place to purchase pansies!pansy There are six packs of pretty pansies of all colors and sizes
Landscape Supply:

The Landscape Supply department is very knowledgeable about materials that are in stock and how to get what you are looking for. If you have any questions about landscaping material please give them a call.

The Landscape Supply is proud to have adobe bricks in stock. This building material is definitely time tested from ancient times to the present. Although this is an old fashion material, this brick can be used in a manner that reflects modern styles and uses. Get creative with materials!

The Landscape supply has DG and TechniSoil, which is a liquid that helps to stabilize soil. The product is used by homeowners and in industrial situations alike to help the ground surfaces to handle water, stop dust, and handle daily use better. The application is easy and similar to what you would do to spray weeds. For more information about tGorilla Hairhis product please visit the landscape department or give them a call.

Po
nd Department:
The Pond Department sales continue! As most people know, this department also handles the foundations, statues, and irrigation equipmpondent along with the pond supplies. The sale on select fountains continues in which fountains are 10 to 40% off.

This year McShane's gifted interior designers (Cinda Steen and Bates Hinds) will be available for Christmas tree decorating. The fee would be $80.00 an hour for one or $150 for the team plus materials. Both designers are highly experienced and fun to work with.

Bates Hinds will be teaching classes about how to decorate wreaths and garlands. He will be able to help you in person to decorate your wreath and will have examples of finished work on display. A Story Shared With Us
A friend of McShane's Nursery, Barb, just returned from a cruise to Alaska.  While in Juneau, they visited a place called the Glacier Gardens, home of the upside down trees. They thought a few of these would look great on the grounds of our nursery! To see what these amazing trees Barb shared with us, just go to:

Barb wrote to us, saying:

Hope you like the slide show.  It was a pretty spectacular park.  If you click on history, it will tell you how it came about.

-Barb

Thank you, Barb, for sharing your wonderful garden experience with us! We hope you send us more information the future!
