Greetings Gardeners !!! It is with great excitement that we greet the start of our fantastic Indian Summer here along the Central Coast. Without question, fall months are the best months of the year in our region. Not only do we see less fog, we enjoy nice warm temperatures. This is precisely why we advocate for fall planting. McShane's features its fall plant sale. Even better, gardeners are afforded high quality, less crowds and more mature nursery stock. Be sure to check out our website for a complete list of fall sale items. Fall is also an important time to prepare for the coming winter rains. Those gravel or paving projects become a high priority, for without addressing them, our landscape suffers soil loss and property damage. We feature several landscape products on sale in the fall. Be sure to inquire about them. I marvel daily at the amazing weather and physical beauty we enjoy. I invite you to enjoy it even more with our professional staff and wide selection of materials available for creating just the right backyard retreat. Cheers! -Steve |

| Nursery Department: Fall is on its way, and one of the biggest signals of it s coming is school back in session. The holiday seasons will be here before we know it. Although the summer time is coming to a slow close there are still so many fun things to do, in the garden and out, using plants. Thankfully, this is also a special time gardeners have to make ready for a harvest of fall vegetables and festive flowers, as well as stewarding the plants that have produced a spring and summer show. For plants that need to be made ready for fall and winter, now is a good time to start thinking about what those plants will need to survive through the cooler seasons. Some areas are: cutting back, pruning, composting, and ground cover.
McShane's has some great deals on plants that we would like you to know about that will be useful for next years Spring garden and sales on other perennials. Select bulbs are on sale at the Nursery 50% off, so now is the time to stock up and make ready for next years spring garden display. Also, check out the nurseries clearance perennial plant area in front of the Hoop House. These plants are in need of a bit of attention to get going again, but they are a great deal because they are 40% off. Also certain plants will be going on sale along side the plants that have been on sale for 25% off. Check out the coupon at the end of this e-mail.
Every week someone comes in with a cutting of a plant that is having problems of some kind, and we at McShane's are always willing to try to identify what is creating the damage. We encourage people to bring in cuttings, because it helps us figure out what is attacking the plant. But, we ask that the cuttings be brought in a sandwich bag sealed up as a precaution. On a happier note, people also bring in cuttings because they want to know what kind of plant they have in their garden.
The nursery department is always ready and willing to offer gardening advice, product knowledge, plant knowledge, and classes. Classes are almost every weekend and provide a forum which is all about one aspect of gardening. McShane's Nursery encourages everyone to live their gardening dream, because plants benefit not only people, but also good bugs, birds, and the environment.
Landscape Supply Department: The Landscape department has the knowledge to help you determine how much material you will need to complete your landscaping job! Customers can purchase materials by the yard or by the bag. Sometimes buying by the yard, instead of by the bag, can save you time and money. Either way, the landscape supply can help you determine what the job requires. Certain materi als, such as wood ground cover, have two dimensions in which people need to think about when considering how much ground cover to buy. These two areas are how much area do you want to cover and how thick you would like the ground cover to be. There are many ground covers to choose from, such as redwood ground cover that is very red, to small bark that has a completely different color and texture.
The Landscape Supply is proud to have adobe bricks in stock. This
building material is definitely time tested from ancient times to the present. Although this is an old fashion material, this brick can be used in a manner that reflects modern styles and uses. Get creative with materials!
Use wood or rock ground covers in containers as a mulch. The textures add another "layer" of texture and color, and helps save water.
The Landscape supply has DG and TechniSoil, which is a liquid that helps to stabilize soil. The product is used by homeowners and in industrial situations alike to help the ground surfaces to handle water, stop dust, and handle daily use better. The application is easy and similar to what you would do to spray weeds. For more information about this product please visit the landscape department or give them a call.
Design Department: The Design department is humming! The greenhouse has never looked better and now is offering more services! The design department is now planting beautiful pots for table centerpieces and outdoor planters. There are p lanters ready for you to enjoy as well as the option of ordering centerpieces for a party or event. These planters are put together by Bates Hinds and could not be more attractive. The nursery also has the materials in stock for anyone to make pretty, creative planters, whether it be fairy gardens or centerpieces. Along with the new planters around the nursery, the greenhouse has been taken to a new level of beauty. Come in today to check out the fountain display and columns. New, fun Halloween decorations will be here just in time for October. Consider what plants could be used to make a Halloween display creepier or even more adorable. Pond Department: The pond department is gearing up for a 50% off sale on MicroPond and MicroPondless kits! A great deal for anyone with a pond or without one. Also the pond master kits are still 40% off! Do not let these deals pass you up.
Ponds and fountains are a nice way to add a water feature into the garden. The sound of water is a natural sound that is calming. Last month's pond class about how to care for water plants went great, so for those who missed out, we will schedule another pond class soon! Look for our classes in the newspaper, on facebook, or get a list at the nursery. The classes are always free, if not stated otherwise. |
