Garden Accessories
Accessories
Come and stop by to see our new garden accessories. We have beautiful copper bird baths, bird houses, trellis's, wrought iron hooks, and wrought iron pot stands. This is a great way to enhance your garden areas.
Composting
Many waste products are always present in the home landscape. These products can be used to make compost which is very beneficial for the garden's health. Stock piling garden debris allows the decomposition process to take place and "compost tea" to be created. Possible compost ingredients are leaves, grass clippings, kitchen waste, garden trimmings and "bumper crop". Compost is to enhance the structure and bio-diversity of the soil. Windmill The Windmill is Here!
Well, have you seen it?? Isn't is amazing! What a wonderful landmark for Salinas Valley! The windmill was designed by Excel Bridge Inc. and built by Brasada Windmills Inc. The windmill is constructed out of cedar and is built to represent the same technology developed generations ago to harness the power of the wind Salinas Valley is famous for. On May 7th, 2007 the windmill was raised at the nursery with people of all walks of life present for this occasion. Steve McShane christened the windmill with a bottle of Champagne with hoots and hollers from the audience as they enjoyed cake and strawberry's! The windmill will soon power a beautiful water feature at the bottom.
Steve's Tip of the Month
SteveSteve,
What is my best defense against gophers when planting?
Sharon, Aromas, CA
When planting you should consider using gopher baskets every time. These are very good at keeping gophers out of your plantings. We sell them here at McShane's. The
baskets come in sizes of 1 gallon, 5 gallon, and 15 gallon baskets .

Ask Anthony
AnthonyAnthony, I have limited space in my backyard and would like to placesome apple trees along my fence. What can I do?
I have the perfect answer. Here at McShane's Nursery
we have espalier apple trees which can be placed right up against the fence. They are flat and don't take up much space. The branches are trained horizontally and are easily pruned. We have varieties such as Anna, Dorsett Golden, Fuji, Gala, and Golden Delicious. These espalier apples will give fruit and save you space. Once a year pruning and training is required to keep them flat.
