What's New At McShane's
We could not be happier to announce the ground breaking for our new 3,000 square foot greenhouse! Site work is underway now. With the foundation expected early this month, we hope to have the structure in place by the 4th of July! Come in and see the AMAZING improvements taking place. We especially want to thank Kasavan Architects , The Don Chapin Company and Mill Construction for their hard work in making this happen!
We are proud to announce the expansion of our Design Services Department. At the rear of the nursery you'll find our NEW landscape design "Annex." This is the new home of Landscape Designer, Peggy Eaton. This will also provide us with an additional spot for another landscape designer. Should you know of someone interested, please let us know. When the time comes for a "plan" to renovate or upgrade your yard or commercial property, call on us!

Employee of the Month
MANNY MARTINEZ
This month's employee of the month truly sets an example when it comes to the GREAT customer service McShane's is known for. Manny LOVES our customers. He knows our product well and takes pride in applying quick math skills. This is especially apparent when it comes to calculating the amount of soil, sod, bark or rock needed for a certain square footage of area for customers. Manny also operates our equipment and has no problem unloading and loading material. When not working he can be found spending time with his dog Tiger or with his girlfriend at one of his favorite local Japanese Restaurants. Manny also plays baseball for Hartnell and intends to play football for Hartnell in the fall. Next time you are in to visit our Landscape Supply Department, be sure to say "congratulations" to Manny. He sets a GREAT example to everyone here at McShanes !!!

 Mother's Day is May 13th!

McShane's Garden Party on May 8th
McShane's is EXCITED to announce our "Spring" Garden Party" mixer with Hullabloo this coming Tuesday, May 8th from 4:30 - 7:00PM. The event benefits the Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce and is sure to be unlike ANY garden party you have ever attended. Price for Chamber Members is $10.00 and $15.00 for non members. Local wine and sodas will be served. Catering is by Hullabaloo and will feature a cooking demonstration by Chef Todd Fischer. There will be raffle prizes and DJ music!  Vegatables! So, are you growing vegetables? IF NOT - May is NOT too late! We are still in the heart of Spring and you can still get your vegetable garden started. Based on feedback from customers, we have GREATLY increased our heirloom tomato offering. You'll also find a great selection of hot peppers! Remember to fertilize early, in small amounts and throughout the growing season. Steve recommends E.B. Stone Tomato and Vegetable Food. He also uses Master Nursery Flower and Vegetable Food. MAY IS THE PERFECT TIME FOR MICRONUTRIENT FERTILZING!
This month's gardening tip is to remember to apply your micronutrient fertilizer. The best product going is called "FST." This product is well balanced with sulfur, iron and other metal micro-nutrients plants need. Micronutrients are not often found in standard "N-P-K" fertilizers. They also help to lower pH. FST is the BEST! HAPPY SPRING!!

Yes. I am here to help! Rich clay soil is found all over Monterey County. We are famous forfor it. Your key to success is managing it. My best advice for you is to add gypsum. We carry Green-All Granulated Gypsum and also have a "Gypsum Based" amendmentYes. I am here to help! Rich clay soil is found all over Monterey County. We are famous called "Sof'nsoil." These products work wonders in breaking down clay at the molecular level. They also free up nutrients for your plants. Here at McShane's we carry 40 pound bags of each that can be applied at the rate of 5lbs per 300 square feet. Come see me. I have some other ideas too !!!

New LeapStart Fertilizer
McShane's has partnered with local Salinas fertilizer manufacturer, RTI and their "Chief Scientist" Neil Anderson in the release of LEAPSTART "Starter" fertilizer packets. RTI has packaged slow release fertilizer blends in small biodegradable "teabags." The response to this product has been AWESOME! Customers can now enjoy pre-measured starter fertilizer! These wonders feed for an entire year and aid in establishing plants. We carry packets for landscape and bedding application. There is also an organic product as well.
