Greetings!

Leaders continually teach Scouts the value of helping others at all times. Local and international media outlets are telling the story of our council's Scouts assisting those affected by recent tornado and floods. Here's a brief list:

  • KSDK meteorologist and assistant Scoutmaster Scott Connell wrote about his troop's work to help the victims of the tornado in Maryland Heights. Read more...
  • Scouts in the North Star District gathered donations of household items to help those affected by the storms. Read more on the North Star District's Facebook page...
  • Scouts were featured on the national Chinese television network for their service helping flood victims in Poplar Bluff. View the video...

Have your Scouts helped others during the recent natural disasters? Please share your story by leaving a comment on The Duffle Blog or on the council's Facebook page

We appreciate our leaders for helping Scouts learn the value of selfless service. During these challenging times, the lessons are even more meaningful and memorable.

Ready For Webelos, Boy Scout Summer Camp?

Camp May Webelos on Nature TrailHere are three important steps to a successful Webelos Mini-Camp, Webelos Camp, Boy Scout and Venture summer camp:

Hold a parent's meeting: Get everyone excited about the adventure ahead when you gather them together. Make sure everyone knows times, dates and locations of camps.
Medical forms: Every Scout and leader who attends a long-term camp must have the required forms completed. The BSA recommends that everyone who participates in a Scouting event have an annual medical evaluation by a certified and licensed health-care provider--a physician (MD or DO), nurse practitioner or physician assistant. Cub Scout Game

Leader Tip:

Beach Ball Ballyhoo Game

Required: one large beach ball per patrol/den

Notes: Good 'Lock-in' type game where boys might try for a longer record all night.
Instructions: Each patrol has a beach ball that they hit into the air as many times as they can without it touching the ground. No one may hit the ball twice in a row. Count one point per hit and try for new records.
Optional Competition:
-Use a different colored ball per patrol and allow Scouts to bat opposing balls out of the way. No physical contact should inhibit Scouts from reaching their ball.
-As a troop teamwork exercise, have the entire troop keep one ball in the air and set a troop record.
-With a stopwatch, see how long all the patrol balls can be kept in the air. Start over when one touches the ground.

Parent Tip:
