Greetings!
It doesn't matter if you've been in Scouting for 25 years or 25 minutes, a good story often brings renewed enthusiasm and momentum for the program. Last year, Joshua S. Newsham waded into the icy Meramec River at Castlewood State Park to rescue a man who fell through the ice. ( Watch a video of Joshua recalling the rescue at the site...) At the conclusion of the council's Friends of Scouting kickoff dinner last week, he was presented the Honor Medal during a National Court of Honor. ( Read the media release...)
( Watch KTVI, Fox 2 story...) Executive Board member Chuck Drury Jr. pinned the Honor Medal on Joshua Newsham during the ceremony. Six years ago, an older Boy Scout taught 11-year-old Joshua Newsham how to perform a reaching rescue and what do if the rescue was on ice at a local swimming pool. Today, Joshua is enrolled in the Firefighting Program at South County Technical School. Thousands of adult volunteer leaders plan and execute programs that help young people grow in countless ways. This story shows how Scouting touches lives and save lives.
Thank you for helping us deliver the promise of Scouting to our young people.

Leader Tip:
Lost In The Fog
Equipment: Two blindfolds for each team; items to build an obstacle course (cones, chairs, boxes, rope, books, etc.) Divide boys into equal teams. Blindfold one boy; another team member is his guide. The guide helps the blindfolded player through the obstacle course to the finish line, instructing him on how to get there. The guide can say "go to the right," "go to the left," "step over," etc. When the two reach the finish line, the boy who was blindfolded returns to guide the next member of his team, who should be blindfolded and ready to go. The first team with all members successfully negotiating the course is the winner.
