Greetings!
Welcome to what promises to be a year of fun and adventure throughout the Greater St. Louis Area Council as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. We will remember our past and renew our commitment to Scouting and its principles in the future.
During the last year, 502 young men in our council became Eagle Scouts, the highest rank in the BSA. They were recognized on Sunday during the Eagle Scout Association's annual Eagle reception at the Emerson Center. Tyler Robinson, a veteran National Youth Leadership Training staff member, made remarks on behalf of the class of 2009. Read his speech on The Duffle Blog...
Thank you for helping us deliver the promise of Scouting to our young people.

Thousands of Scouts enjoy the council's summer camp programs. However, many Scouts and parents aren't aware of the programs and opportunities available.
Why not send the parents of your Webelos den an e-mail with a link to a video that shows the fun and educational experiences offered at Webelos Camp or Webelos Mini-Camp?
Unit leaders received a DVD containing videos of the council's summer camp programs. The videos also are available on the council's YouTube site:

Leader Tip:
Power Pull
Materials: Empty disposable cup, piece of string 3 feet long, wad of paper (or other small object that is easy to tie a string around).
One player gets the cup and the other gets the string and paper ball. Put the paper ball in the middle of a table top, between the two players. The cup person tries to trap the paper ball under the cup before the other player can pull the ball off the edge of the table to safety. When the ball has been trapped five times, players switch places and start a new round. Catching the string doesn't count. The ball must be under the cup to be trapped. Next: Try the game on the floor with boys on their knees. Pull the string and ball "to safety" out of the playing area between the two boys. Source: Cub Scout Program Helps, January, 2010 (PDF) |
