Greetings!,
Prepare now for the annual Scouting for Food Good Turn, the largest single-day canned food drive in our community. Scouting for Food teaches the values of citizenship and service to our youth members and helps thousands of families in our region. Scouts will distribute bags on Saturday, Nov. 14, and return the following Saturday, Nov. 21, to collect the bags filled with canned goods. Remember these important steps:
- Recruit enough adults to help. Youths need supervision, especially when on busy city streets and rural highways. Good supervision and discipline prevents many injuries.
- Pick up your unit's bags. Most were distributed to units at district Roundtable meetings during the first week of October. Contact your district's Scouting for Food participation chairman if you need bags.
- Review your unit's assigned territory. Each unit should have an assigned area. Please cover only your unit's assigned territory.
Thanks to all who help fulfill Scouting's promise in our communities.
--Greater St. Louis Area Council, Boy Scouts of America
--P.S.: Please be generous when asked to participate in your United Way campaign. The Council receives approximately 19 percent of its operating budget from United Way agencies. More... |

Information On Religious Emblem Programs
Each year, thousands of parents and adult volunteer leaders help Scouts earn the religious emblem of their faith. However, many unit leaders often don't have enough information to adequately answer questions about the religious emblem programs of all faiths. The organization Programs of Religious Activities with Youth, or P.R.A.Y., has information on the religious emblems of almost every faith. The PRAY website, http://www.praypub.org, has a complete listing of the awards, workbooks, emblems and other material. Read more on religious emblems...

Leader Tip:
Shere Khan and Baloo One player is Shere Khan, the tiger. All other boys are wolves in the pack. The wolves form a line with hands on each other's waist. The last in line is Baloo, who has a dangling tail tucked into his belt. Shere Khan tries to catch Baloo by pulling out his tail, but the wolves scramble to keep Baloo safe. If Shere Khan catches Baloo within three minutes, he wins. If not, the wolves win. Source: Cub Scout Program Helps, October, 2009 (PDF) |
