Jamboree Contingent Filling Fast
The Council will send six troops, each consisting of 36 Scouts and four leaders, to the 2010 National Jamboree. This event will be the pinnacle of the Boy Scouts of America's 100th Anniversary celebration.

Completing three tasks in August and September can put your Scout unit in high gear for the program year. 1. Plan Your Unit's Program: Gather your key leaders and  plan your activities for the year. Click on the Council's 2009-2010 Program Guide for calendars, program and facility information. Distribute the plan to current and prospective parents of Scouts. 2. Recruit New Youth Members, Leaders: Nothing builds enthusiasm and momentum better than a successful School Night to Join Scouting. (See Fall Recruiting story below.) 3. Plan A Successful Fundraiser: Selling Trail's End Popcorn can provide your unit with the funds necessary for a successful program. Need information on how to make sure your unit is financially strong? Read more... How can we better serve you and the youths in our program? Unit commissioners and council staff are ready to assist you. Please contact us with any ideas or if we can be of any assistance to you or the youths we serve. Membership Fee Increases To $15 From $10 Effective Jan. 1
The Executive Board of the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America unanimously passed a resolution at its business meeting on May 22, 2009, to increase the traditional membership registration fee for all youth and adults to $15 from its current $10, effective Jan. 1, 2010. The last fee increase -- from $7 to $10 -- was in 2003. Read more... |

Underwater Race
Equipment: One No. 10 can per obstacle course, chairs, ropes, poles, bricks, etc. Create an obstacle course using objects you have at hand. Build in a variety of activities along the path including climbing over, crawling, walking backward, etc. Use your imagination and make many varied obstacles. Fill cans with equal amounts of water. Each boy holds the can of water over his head as he negotiates the obstacle course. At the end, measure the amount of water remaining. The winner is the one who spilled the least amount of water.
