The Greater St. Louis Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, is a United Way agency.

United Way
Greetings!,

Scouting for FoodPrepare now for the annual Scouting for Food Good Turn, the largest single-day canned food drive in the Boy Scouts of America. Scouting for Food teaches the values of citizenship and service to our youth members and helps thousands of families in our communities.

Scouts will distribute bags on Saturday, Nov. 15, and return the following Saturday, Nov. 22, to collect the bags filled with canned goods. Remember these important steps:
  • Recruit enough adults to help. Youths need supervision, especially when on busy city streets and rural highways. Good supervision and discipline prevents many injuries.
  • Pick up your unit's bags. Most were distributed to units at district Roundtable meetings during the first week of October.  Contact your district's Scouting for Food participation chairman if you need bags.
  • Review your unit's assigned territory. Each unit should have an assigned area. Please cover only your unit's assigned territory.

Thanks to all who fulfill Scouting's promise in our communities.

Boy Scouts of America

Information OnGod and Country Award Religious Emblems Programs
Each year, thousands of parents and adult volunteer leaders help Scouts earn the religious emblem of their faith. However, many unit leaders often don't have enough information to adequately answer questions about the religious emblem programs of all faiths. The organization Programs of Religious Activities with Youth, or P.R.A.Y., has information on the religious emblems of almost every faith. The PRAY website, http://www.praypub.org, has a complete listing of the awards, workbooks, emblems and other material.

Popcorn Sale Campmaster LogoProvides Firm Foundation For Unit Programs
One annual fundraiser can adequately fill your unit's bank account so leaders, members and parents can spend more time having fun with activities. Here's why Camp Masters popcorn sales succeed:
  • Excess inventory associated with other product sales is eliminated along with other risks.
  • A 40-percent commission is returned to the unit on the top three high-end products
  • Anyone can send $25 worth of popcorn to our country's service men and women in the military
  • Web-based ordering saves time.
  • Camp Masters' sales incentive program eliminates the task of ordering prizes.

Leader Tip:
Bagel Bird Feeder
Cub Scout Game
(Tiger Cub Elective 32)
Materials: Bagel (stale works well), peanut butter, lard or shortening, rolled oats, birdseed, string or twine. Mix peanut butter well with equal parts lard or shortening. Spread peanut butter-lard mixture all over the outside of a bagel. Roll the bagel in a mixture of one part oats and one part birdseed. Tie a string to the bagel. Tie the string to a tree branch or wherever you please. The birds can eat all but the string so there is no mess to clean up.
Parent Tip:
