The Greater St. Louis Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, is a United Way agency.

United Way
Greetings! ,

The enthusiasm of your new Scouts, parents and leaders is probably very high right now.  Excitement will increase once they experience a fun program led by a properly prepared leader.

Complete two important steps after completing fall recruitment and watch your unit accelerate:

1. Help Your Leaders Get Trained: Visit the BSA's new OnlineLearningCenter (http://olc.scouting.org) for Fast Start Training and Youth Protection Training. Visit the Council's Training web page for upcoming courses. Contact your unit commissioner, district training chairman or district executive for additional assistance.

2. Experience The Program: Get everyone involved in an outdoor activity, field trip or other program as soon as possible. New Cub Scouts and their families are invited to attend Taste of Scouting on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Beaumont Scout Reservation.

Thanks to all leaders who fulfill Scouting's promise in our communities.

Boy Scouts of America

--P.S.: Please be generous when asked to United Wayparticipate in your United Way campaign. The Council receives approximately 19 percent of its operating budget from United Way agencies. More...

Popcorn Sale Campmaster LogoProvides Firm Foundation For Unit Programs
One annual fundraiser can adequately fill your unit's bank account so leaders, members and parents can spend more time on program. Here's why Camp Masters popcorn sales succeed:
  • Excess inventory associated with other product sales is eliminated along with other risks.
  • A 40-percent commission is returned to the unit on the top three high-end products
  • Anyone can send $25 worth of popcorn to our country's service men and women in the military
  • Web-based ordering saves time.
  • Camp Master's sales incentive program eliminates the task of ordering prizes.
  • More information on selling popcorn...
Two leaders per unit are invited to a dinner to learn how their units can conduct a successful popcorn sale:

Ready For Scouting's 100th?
The BSA will celebrate its 100th birthday in 2010. Celebrations will happen at the national, council, district and unit levels. Our Council's "big event" will be a council-wide encampment at Forest Park on June 4-6, 2010.   We want your ideas! We are soliciting ideas for unit and district activities.  We are looking for names and program ideas for the "big event." And we're looking for program ideas we've never considered! Ideas? Send them. Want to get involved? Send your info. Your company want to help?  Go for it!
Send your thoughts to Assistant Scout Executive Tim O'Donnell at todonnell@stlbsa.org today!

Merit Badge Make-Up Day: During the event heldESA Banner by the Eagle Scout Association on Aug. 9 at Beaumont Scout Reservation, 497 Boy Scouts completed 518 merit badges that were started at summer camp. They were assisted by 93 merit badge counselors.
Leader Tip:
New Buddy Shoe ScrambleCub Scout Game
Cub Scouts put their shoes in a pile 25 to 30 feet from the starting line. A leader mixes up the shoes so that no pairs are together. On signal, one member of a buddy duo runs to the pile, picks out his friend's shoes, grabs them, returns to the start, and puts them on his buddy. When the buddy's shoes are on, that buddy races to the pile, grabs the pair of shoes for the first runner, returns, and puts them on his buddy's feet. The first team of buddies done is declared "Best Buds."
