Little Sioux Scouts

The nation's Scouting community continues to keep in thought and prayer the friends and families of those Scouts killed or injured during a tornado on June 11 at the Little Sioux Scout Ranch in Iowa. Click here or on the image above to read stories from the Omaha World-Herald that profile the Scouts who lost their lives.
One family in the Greater St. Louis Area Council had a nephew who helped the injured after the F3 tornado.

Thomas White, 18, performed first aid and coordinated rescues in the aftermath of the tornado and was frequently interviewed by various media outlets. Thomas is the nephew of Gene and Elaine Kullmann of St. Louis. We learned about the connection last week when the Kullmann's sent their youngest son, Doug, 11, to his first week of Boy Scout summer camp with Troop 752 at the S bar F Ranch. Next week, oldest son, Brad, 13, will be at the Ranch with Troop 647.

"Don't think there were not plenty of conversations about weather safety," Elaine Kullmann said. "We talked with Thomas. The media reports can only tell part of the story. The Scouts were prepared.  We camp as a family and are prepared for bad weather. You can prepare but some things you can't prevent."

Families of the deceased Scouts established memorial funds. Information on contributing to them is available at the Mid-America Council's website, www.mac-bsa.org.  Contributions to the Mid-America's Council rebuilding effort also can be made on the site.

The health and safety of all youth members and adult volunteer leaders is our highest priority.

As always, please contact us if we can be of service to you and your Scouts.

Source For Internet Safety Tips

The Internet is a wonderful resource for both adults and children. The Internet also can be a dangerous place. Inobtr.org is a website dedicated to keeping kids safe while online. It was founded by Steve Schankman, a member of the Council's Executive Board.
