The Greater St. Louis Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, is a United Way agency.

United Way
Greetings!

Ready to celebrate the 98th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America? February 8, 1910, is the date the Boy Scouts of America was incorporated.  Here are three easy ways to celebrate the BSA's anniversary on Friday, Feb. 8:
  1. Display Your Badge or Medal At Work: Take your Eagle Scout medal, badge of rank or religious award out of the drawer and prominently display it at your place of employment.
  2. Do An Additional Good Turn: The Scout Slogan is "Do a Good Turn Daily." Do an additional one for someone.
  3. Thank Your Leader: Call or write a current or former leader and express your thanks for his or her service.

You might not have a chance to blow out 98 candles and enjoy a slice of cake, but celebrate Scouting's anniversary in your own unique way.

What is Friends of Scouting and why is it important?

Friends of Scouting is an annual opportunity for Scout families and others to give financial support to the Council's Scouting program.
  • Friends of Scouting provides 29 percent of the Council's funding.
  • 81 cents of every dollar is spent on programs and services to units. (The not-for-profit standard is 75 cents.)
  • More than 67,000 children benefit from Council programs.

The Council is grateful to all units who committed to a Friends of Scouting presentation at an upcoming Blue & Gold Banquet or Court of Honor. If your unit would like to participate and help our Council continue to succeed, please contact your district executive or Brian Sens, finance director, at (314) 256-3012 or bsens@stlbsa.org.

Unit Commissioner Badge
Who are Unit Commissioners?
Commissioners are district and council leaders who help Scout units succeed. They coach and consult with adult leaders of Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, and Venturing crews. Commissioners help maintain the standards of the Boy Scouts of America. They also oversee the unit charter renewal plan so that each unit reregisters on time with an optimum number of youth and adult members.
HorsesSpecial Summer Camps
The Council offers specialty summer camps for Boy Scouts, Explorers and Venturers. Horse Camp, the Ranger Program, the River Ranger Program and Order of the Arrow Summer Camp provide members with a special week of programming. Click on the links below to learn more:
Leader Tip:
Alien Egg Game
Cub Scout Game

Supplies: an alien egg (ball about the size of a volleyball covered with aluminum foil).

Divide the boys into pairs. Tell them that you have been given an alien egg. The egg cannot be moved from place to place unless it is carried between the heads of two people. The egg is unique in this way because it must be in contact with human brain waves while it is in motion or the baby alien inside might get upset, break open the egg, and eat the carpeting. The object is for each pair to crawl sideways, with the egg between their heads, to the end of the playing area and back. They must then exchange the egg with the next pair in line without using their hands.
