Make a Donation to Scouting.

The Greater St. Louis Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, is a United Way agency.

United Way
Greetings!

The 23rd annual Scouting for Food Good Turn begins on Scouting for FoodSaturday, Nov. 10. Scouts will distribute more than one million bags and return the following Saturday, Nov. 17, to collect the bags filled with donated canned goods.

Here are some important items for all Scouts and leaders:

--All Scouts and Scouters should be in full uniform.

--Select an assembly place and time for Nov. 10, such as the unit's regular meeting place or another convenient, central location.  Be sure everyone is aware of the time and location.

--Give brief instructions on distributing bags to all adults and Scouts.

--All Scouts should travel in groups of two or more (the buddy system).

--Have enough vehicles to support the number of Scouts and the area covered.

--Scouts should leave the bags on doors. Do not enter the home and do not put bags in mailboxes.

--Bags should be distributed to residences only, no businesses.

--Vehicles should stay as close to Scouts as possible. Adults should be closely supervising Scouts by walking alongside them.

Visit www.scoutingforfood.com for more information on the largest single-day canned food drive in the Boy Scouts of America.

Information For Scouts To Earn Religious Emblems
Each year, thousands of parents and adult volunteer leaders and help Scouts earn the religious emblem of their faith. However, many unit leaders often don't have enough information to adequately answer questions about the religious emblem programs of all faiths.

The organization Programs of Religious Activities with Youth, or P.R.A.Y., has information on the religious emblems of almost every faith. The PRAY website, http://www.praypub.org, has a complete listing of the awards, workbooks, emblems and other material.

Leader Tip:
Snowshoe Race
Cub Scout Game
Equipment: Large cardboard box, pencil, ruler, scissors, twine or elastic. Cut two large ovals (roughly 12 by 24 in.) from the cardboard. Place a foot in the middle of each of the cutout ovals. Use scissors to poke two holes spaced in the center of each of the ovals, on either side of your foot. Thread the twine or elastic up through the bottom of the holes so that the two ends are on the top of the oval. Place your foot on the oval and tie the twine around your foot. Then race with other Cub Scouts in your snowshoes!
