Greetings!
Scout units throughout the council will welcome new members, parents and leaders during our fall membership campaign, School Night to Join Scouting. We want to share a story of creativity and resourcefulness that led to success for one unit.
Cub Scout Pack 530, chartered to the Lion's Club of Harvester, Mo., recruits from Castilo Elementary School in the Francis Howell School District. They secured an electronic sign from their chartering organization and paid a resident next to the school for the electricity and a spot on the lawn (see photo below).
They recruited 24 new Scouts--nine more than last year--and now have total of 81 Scouts. They were assisted by members of Boy Scout Troop 533.
For their ingenuity and increasing awareness of Scouting, Pack 530 is the first recipient of the council's Beacon Award. The new unit award recognizes proactive efforts to display Scouting to the general public.
Thanks to all leaders who fulfill Scouting's promise in our communities.

Fundraising Made Easy
With Campmaster Popcorn
One annual fundraiser can adequately fill your unit's bank account so leaders, members and parents can spend more time on fun programs and activities. The Council's popcorn sale eliminates risk and excess inventory associated with other product sales. Web-based ordering saves time. Campmaster's sales incentive program eliminates the task of ordering prizes. Two leaders per unit are invited to an upcoming popcorn orientation dinner. Read more...

| Leader Tip:
Watering The Horses Game
Equipment: Paper cup half filled with water for each Cub.
Cubs are in sixes, and each Cub is given a paper cup half filled with water. In turn they race to a turning point about 10 yards away taking their cup with them. When there they turn round, kneel, put the cups between their teeth, and with their hands behind their backs drink the water. As soon as the cup is empty they get up and race back to their six, and the next Cub goes.
