Boy Scout Leader Training Available At Summer Camp

New Leader Essentials, Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster, Committee Training, and Introduction to Outdoor Skills will be offered during the Council's Boy Scout summer camps at Camp Lewallen and the S bar F Ranch. Course participants must assist the Voyageur Program each day of the week in their camp and participate in afternoon training sessions held Monday through Thursday. The afternoon training sessions will be held in the Ranch Health Lodge from 2 to 4 p.m. A schedule and more details will be available during check-in on Sundays at camp. The cost is $20 and includes all materials.

NYLT

Boy Scouts can participate in a weeklong training course that developes leadership skills during an exciting outdoor program. Scouts who complete NYLT are prepared to lead fellow Scouts and to work with adult leaders. Read more...

Wood BadgeWood Badge Course Set For August
Wood Badge is advanced training for adult leaders in Scouting. It is designed to enhance contemporary leadership skills and develop more effective Scouters. The Wood Badge program will give participants a greater understanding of Scouting aims and methods, while developing true Scout Spirit. It is anticipated that all people who complete Wood Badge training will continue to work actively in the Scouting program to further the aims and methods of Scouting.
 
Requirements:
-Be a registered adult leader.
-Complete Basic Leader Training (Cub Scout, Boy Scout or Venturer)
-Receive a recommendation from the district training chairman and district executive.
 
The next Wood Badge course will be Aug. 10-12 and Aug. 24-26 at Camp Lewallen. The pre-course meeting is July 21. The total course fee is $195, which includes all meals, lodging, training materials and program supplies. A $15 discount is applied if payment is received by the pre-course meeting.

Cub Scout Game
Leader Tip:  Ice Cream In A Can
Ingredients:
-1 C. milk
-1 C. whipping cream
-½ C. sugar
-½ t. vanilla
-One empty 2½-lb. (30 oz.) can with plastic lid
-One empty No. 10 (1 gallon) can with two plastic lids
-Crushed ice
-Rock salt
 
Combine ingredients in the small can. Mix well. Cover tightly with the plastic lid and tape tightly with duct tape. Place the small can in the large can. Fill the empty space between the cans with ice and rock salt, alternating the two. Cover with a plastic lid and tape. Put the other lid on the bottom of the can to make rolling easier. Place the can on its side and roll back and forth rapidly for about 20 minutes. Open. Take the inner can out and open. Break up the ice cream. Serve and enjoy.
