Announcing "The HoopWoman Diaries"

HoopWoman

For nearly a year, I have been trying to finish writing my second book and haven't been able to do it.  While I'm a solid 7500 words into it, I simply have been too busy with competing priorities of speaking, marketing, learning, ministering, volunteering, hooping, and loving.  Alas, Book #2 is on the shelf at the moment, most likely to be written at or on a combination of airplanes, airports, and hotels.

In the absence of my book, I vowed that I would resume writing my blog.  Unfortunately, that fell by the wayside as well, since it seemed to take too much time for me to get into the writing groove.  Yet, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was supposed to be doing something to reach out and touch people in a creative way.

Then the messages started coming.

For months I began having visions of resuming a regular video blog where I would simply sit down, share what's going on, and hopefully offer up what my best friend Jean would call "bits of birdsong".  I stopped doing videos in 2009 and had a whole list of reasons why I shouldn't embark on vblogging (not the least of which was my near-paralyzing fear of watching myself on video).  Yet, the signs kept coming.  People began to ask me when I would start doing more videos again.  Colleagues with whom I have a great deal of respect mentioned how video is one of the most powerful mediums to connect with one's network.  My pre-conference promotional videos were becoming a big success.  The messages kept flowing in, and eventually I decided to stow my personal dramas and get on with it already.

One morning I woke up with a clear vision that the new video blog series would be called "The HoopWoman Diaries".  Part humor, part inspiration, part therapy, and all real, my video blog is simply a woman with her camera sharing her journey to BIGness.  Some days HoopWoman is in her power, and other days she is not.  In some episodes she will be sporting full makeup and hair, and most others she will be au natural with scaryhair.

Honestly, I am a little freaked out by the whole thing.  Every time I do a new video, two big nasty fearballs dance around my head:

1) What if no one watches?
2) What if people DO watch and hate it?  Or me?

For all intents and purposes, creating "The HoopWoman Diaries" is exactly the opposite of what I should be doing in this phase of my speaking career.  All of the experts tell me that I should do video blogs that show me in the best possible (and professional) light and provide substantive tools and techniques that viewers can use to help improve heir businesses.  (Yawn....boring!  That is sooooo not my thing.)  These same experts would caution me against doing a raw, seat-of-the-pants personal video as it "erodes my brand" and "diminishes my credibility".

Yeah, tell that to Spirit, Mr. Expert.

In my 42nd year on the planet, I have come to the place where I rely more upon the signs I receive from the Universe than the so-called expert advice given to me.  All of the signs are pointing me toward connecting with people through The Diaries, so that's what I'm going to do.  I am going to trust that everything will happen exactly as it should and that people will eventually start watching and get something  positive out of them.  Or not!  Maybe no one will watch them, and that's OK too.  I record these things because they are fun to do, they help me to GET BIG, and I am guided to do so.  The first of what I assume will be many lessons "The HoopWoman Diaries" is giving to me is this:  Release the outcome.  Just BE.  Whatever happens, happens.  It's all good, even when the View Count is zero.

Is there something in your life in which you are focusing too much on the outcome or on what others will think?  Have you subverted your amazing, powerful creative energy to the phantom bogeyman of "What if...?"  Is there a place where you can follow your joy, regardless of how it will turn out?  If so, I invite you to join me on the quest towards BIGness and do it anyway, no matter what people will say or do or think of it.

As always, I am most grateful for your support, and I hope you get a chance to check out The Diaries on my YouTube page.  (I got my fancy-schmancy stuff on there too.)  If you like it, share it with others!  Maybe they'll like it too.

Take care, and make it a wonderful month!

Many blessings,

Theresa

About Town
DCR
I often perform my keynote presentations for associations and corporations, and it is somewhat rare that I have an opportunity to share my presentations with the general public.  However, every once in a while an opportunity presents itself where the public can come join in on the fun.

On March 1, I will be performing the closing keynote at the Dakota County Regional Chamber of Commerce's event, "Women of the Twin Cities" in Eagan, MN.  This is a jam-packed day of great presentations, vendor showcases, and networking.  If you are a woman in the Twin Cities and interested in a fun way to meet new people (and want to see moi do my thing), check it out!  I hope to see you there.

My next Celebration Service at LHSC will be on February 6, 2012 from 10:30am-11:30am and is titled "The Tao of 'Yes, and...'".  In this service, I will share a message on how we can find greater peace, joy and abundance through reframing our approach to everything through the "Yes, and..." lens.  I hope you can join me for a spirited morning of Spirit!

Stuff I Love

Groupon If you are like me, you like saving green energy whenever given the chance!  I have registered with many of the 1/2 off online marketing companies, but my favorite is Groupon.  It seems like they are offering the things that I actually use more than the other guys.  My love for Groupon grew exponentially when I discovered the iPhone app for it!

At the touch of button, I can look on my phone to find out which of my Groupons are expiring soon (the coupon for Turn Style Consignment is next up followed by dancing lessons from Foster's Champion Ballroom! ).  No one likes paying for these coupons and then discovering that you've lost track of them for so long that they are expired!!  BOOOO!  Moreover, the app allows you to redeem them directly from your phone so you no longer have to hold on to those pesky pieces of paper.  It's better for the environment and better for my pocketbook at the same time.  Who doesn't love that?
