FEATURED READER RESPONSE

"As I started reading Opening the Kimono, I found myself turning back to the cover to see if I had written this book in a dream. Truthfully, Theresa has a way of taking one back to stories that will resonate with all women. Her writing is easy to follow, very funny and most importantly honest and fresh."

You can purchase Opening the Kimono on Amazon or your favorite local bookstore.

If you have already read it, I would be most grateful if you would tell a friend about it and write a 5-star Review for Amazon.

Thank you for your support!

Being a Sacred Witness

Japan Tsunami

It's difficult to fully comprehend the magnitude of the tragedy that befell the people of Japan last month.  Not only did Japan's citizens have to endure an 8.9 earthquake, but they also experienced a mammoth tsunami that wiped out everything in its path for miles.  With thousands of people dead, a catastrophic loss of property, and an ongoing threat of radiation exposure, they are going through what can only be described as hell on earth.  Yet, somehow, they are finding their way through the disaster with grace.

Many of us are at a loss as to what to do from our safe, warm homes.  When we see the countless videos of the destruction, we feel impotent.  Our feelings of helplessness often elicit a desire to either ignore the situation altogether by numbing ourselves or get sucked into the fear it causes.  However, there is another option: being a sacred witness.

When tragedies like this happen, I rely on my connection with Spirit to get me through.  We can realize that this falls into the "Is-ness" category of life -- it just IS.  There will always be unpleasant, or even deadly, events that just are.  It is the nature of existing in a finite body.  The best thing we can do is to remain grounded and present, open our hearts to those who are suffering, provide help in any way we can, and express gratitude for the many gifts we have in our own lives.  We can witness their journey without succumbing to anger or fear.  We can realize that what happens halfway across the world affects us.  We can send prayers and resources.  We can go into our own hearts and find those places where we feel afraid and surround them with Divine Love.

If you believe that we are in a time of great planetary change, then you also believe that there will be more events like Japan and Haiti.  Next time may be closer to home.  What will we do when the video plastered all over YouTube is our own hometown?  Will we crumble into the pain, or will we realize that everything happens exactly as it needs to?  Will we realize that there are gifts contained within the tragedy?  Will we become more empathetic to our fellow brothers and sisters?  Will we remain present amongst the rubble?  Will we know that Spirit is always with us?  This is my prayer.

Please take a moment today to express gratitude to those special people in your life, and send some love (both from the heart and from the wallet) to those who desperately need it.  We can and will navigate this difficult time - and the next one and the next one - if we stay awake, present and grounded.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support of my work, and have a wonderful April.  The showers will bring the flowers.

Blessings,

Theresa

LHSC

Thanks goes out to those of you who attended my last service at LHSC!  What a wonderful morning it was.  We discussed how to be a sacred witness to tragedy as well as the importance of service to community.  LHSC is such a magical space, and it is in desperate need of financial contributions and volunteer efforts to keep it running.  If you participate in any LHSC events or attend my services, I humbly ask you to get more involved in preserving it and helping it grow to be the vibrant spiritual community it is meant to be.  If you want to know how you can help, please contact Nancy at the LHSC office.  Her contact info is 612-922-4272 or info@lakeharrietspiritualcommunity.org.  You can ask her what projects are requiring assistance or set up a recurring donation via Paypal.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

My next service will be on Sunday, April 17th at 10:30am.  The tentative title is "Loving the Haters: How to Move Into Grace".  There are so many unconscious people out there who are spewing anger at anyone and everyone, and it is up to us to keep the flow of love permeating the world.  When we walk the path of consciousness, we also need to know how to healthfully encounter those who are not.

Prior to the 10:30am service on the 17th, I will also be facilitating a Spirit Dance from 9:00am-10:00am.  If you want to experience what it feels like to connect to the Divine through authentic dance (and shake your boo-tay in the process), please come early!  If you decide to attend one or both of the events, please be sure to say hello afterward.

Upcoming Event:

WisdomFilms Screening: Saturday, May 21st, 7:00pm, $5/ticket

I am so excited to host the exclusive Twin Cities screening of WisdomFilms, a profound spiritual multimedia experience.  "These films can offer a refreshing way to reduce stress and restore balance to your mind, heart, and soul. By featuring spoken wisdom from today's most acclaimed voices in self-help and spirituality, these film sanctuaries provide experiences of profound beauty and a connection to what matters most."  The spiritual leaders included in this phenomenal project include Deepak Chopra, Ram Dass, Thich Nhat Hahn, Bob Proctor, Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, and Jyoti, my very own spiritual teacher from the Center for Sacred Studies.  Visit the WisdomFilms web site to watch the brief movie trailer.  Please join me for this AMAZING evening of life-affirming meditation and contemplation!  You won't want to miss it.

Stuff I Love

Bhakti Bazaar

Jai.  Oh, how I LOVE Jai.

Jai Uttal is one of my favorite sacred musicians of all time.  I got turned on to Jai's Kirtan music several years ago when I visited the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, and I have been a raving fan ever since.  I have several of his albums and play them incessantly while meditating, doing yoga, dancing, cleaning the toilet, and any other task that requires a bit of the Spirit Mojo to help me through.  His latest album is a collaboration with Ben Liebach and is called Bhakti Bazaar.  It is simply Divoone!  My fav track is Devakinandana Gopala, and I could listen to it on repeat for hours.  Bhakti Bazaar is a wonderful complement to another one of my all-time favorite albums of his, Music for Yoga and Other Joys.  Jai combines powerful bhakti yoga of devotion with a modern music flair that keeps your blood racing and your soul soaring.  (Added bonus:  He's ADORABLE.)  If you are a fan of Kirtan, you should check out this master of sacred music.  If you are new to Kirtan, Jai is the perfect entry point.  I bet you'll fall in love with the Jai Guy just like I did.
