Mom and Me

November is a magical month for me.  It is the month of my birth, my mother's passing, and of course, Thanksgiving.  For me, November often brings with it a mix of emotion, from grief and melancholy to joy and anticipation.  As I get older, my birthday contains a little dash of sadness along with the celebration.  I still can't believe I'm over 40!!!  When did I grow up and become a middle-aged woman?!  It seems like only yesterday I was listening to "Frankie Goes to Hollywood" and wearing leg warmers as a fashion statement.  There is so much more I want to accomplish!  My birthday reminds me that life isn't a dress rehearsal, and I better get my butt onstage as often as possible.

This time of the year also reminds me of the most intense, painful, and transformational time I spent with my mother in her final days.  I have memories seared into my brain of what that last week was like.  Those quiet moments alone with Mom, watching her slowly drop her physical body and move completely into her spiritual body, will never leave me -- nor do I want them to.  The images were painful, the physical effort was exhausting, and the emotions were raw.  Yet even after four years, I can look back on her month of transition with great reverence and awe; I was given the incredible honor of witnessing the most important woman in my life gracefully and consciously leave this world to rejoin her Creator.

Finally, November is the month dedicated to one of my favorite things in the world: GRATITUDE!!!  The Thanksgiving holiday reminds us of all of the wonderful things for which we can be grateful and gives us a chance to spend some quality time with our loved ones.  While we aren't big bird eaters, we still love the occasion to sit around a roaring fire and laugh, tell stories, and reminisce.  What a special time that is!

During this month of November, I invite you to join me in making gratitude your walking prayer.  Take a moment every day to be grateful for at least one thing in your life that makes it rich and rewarding.  This simple act of awareness can literally transform your life of challenge, pain and frustration to one of joy, beauty and bliss.  In honor of this monthly dedication, each one of my Daily Doses of Mojo will focus on one thing for which to be grateful.  If you don't already receive the Daily Dose, it would be a great time to sign up.  Get a blast of goodness in your Inbox every day!

Thank you so much for your ongoing support of my work, and I am truly grateful that I am able to share my thoughts and inspiration with you each and every month.  Please remember that you have the ability and the resources to create that juicy life you desire and deserve.  GO OUT THERE AND CREATE IT!

Take care, and make it a wonderful day.

Blessings,

Theresa

Under the Dome: What's New at LHSC
It's time to sing!  My spiritual journey has included many wonderful opportunities to express my Divinity through sound and song.  My Celebration Service at Lake Harriet Spiritual Community this month is titled, "Singing Your Prayers: A Morning of Sacred Music and Mantra" and will be held on Sunday, November 21st at 10:30am.  I will be sharing my experiences with kirtan (the ancient practice of call-and-response chanting) and how sacred music can envelop and supercharge a regular meditation practice.

Susan ShehataWe will be fortunate enough to have none other than Susan Shehata guide us during the upcoming service!  Susan is a classically trained singer, Kirtan leader, radio personality, and healer. She is the co-owner of Sacred Rearrangements Shop and Healing Center, in Uptown Minneapolis and co-hosts the weekly radio show, Raising the Consciousness on AM950, KTNF.  As a kirtan leader and mantra vocalist, Susan has performed at the Varsity Theatre, Acadia Café, Project Earth, Harvest Fest and Bella Madre music festivals, as well as a number of yoga studios and healing centers.  She has also both performed and taught on the art of kirtan at the Edge expo in Minneapolis. Susan recently co-produced the First Annual Twin Cities Kirtan Festival as well as the Kirtan concert with Dave Stringer.

I hope you can join us under the dome for a morning of inspiration, meditation, and music! Make sure to stop by and say hello after the service.

Stuff I Like
Last month, I participated in a fundraiser for Skyway of Minneapolis Business Women, one of the non-profit organizations of which I am a member.Jeanne Beatrice  In addition to networking with fabulous women in the Twin Cities area and enjoying super-tasty vittles from Lucille's Kitchen Garden, the event also included shopping at the booths of several local vendors, many of whom were of women-owned businesses.  While there were many outstanding products available for purchase, there was one vendor in particular that stood out for me.

The company is called Jeanne Beatrice, and it offers absolutely gorgeous handmade market baskets.  As a birthday present to myself, I purchased the basket shown on the right to use as my new laptop bag.  It is beautiful, sturdy, and eyecatching.  I adore it! (I've already gotten several compliments on it when I work from Caribou Coffee, my "remote office".)  I hope you get a chance to check out Jeanne Beatrice as well.  Her stuff is fantastic.
