PET IN NEED: COSETTE
|
Cosette is a very sweet pit bull
who is currently at Lifeline Animal Project. She has been diagnosed with
inflammatory bowel disease, and really needs to be in an adoptive or foster
home to help get her condition regulated. She is about 5 years old and gets
along well with most dogs. And she loves cats! Please contact Lifeline at info@atlantapets.org if you are
interested in learning more about Cosette and click here to watch her in action!

A Special Message from AARF
|
|
This holiday season, we ask you to remember some people who
rarely get the appreciation that they deserve. Each county in the Atlanta metro
area has an animal control shelter, most of which don't have the staff and
resources they need, operating on a shoestring budget. The staff who work at
these shelters see the worst in our community--the people who bring in their
pets because they are no longer cute or healthy, the stray and abandoned
animals picked up off the streets, and the inhumane cruelty cases of pets
seized by the county because their owners have abused them. These shelters
can't turn anyone away, and in this tough economy, there is rarely any space
for incoming pets. Many rescue coordinators at these shelters spend their days,
and many of their evenings and weekends, desperately trying to find ways for
pets to leave the shelters alive. During this holiday season, please take a
moment to remember and appreciate the people that work at your county shelter.
Tell them that you understand and appreciate the life and death decisions that
they are forced to make every day. Take them a box of holiday treats, or even
just a Christmas card to wish them happy holidays. And commit yourself to
helping them in their mission by donating supplies, money or time. Their
mission is the same as all of ours: to save lives.

Volunteer Spotlight: Courtney Chacos
|
I got involved with AARF
when I moved to Atlanta. I have a maltese, Rocky, and have always had a
soft spot for animals, so when I heard about the staggering number of pets
that are euthanized in Atlanta animal shelters every year, I knew I wanted
to be a part of an animal rescue that was dedicated to helping solve the
problem. I started looking around at animal rescues and AARF had the most
innovative ways to raise money - including the program I am involved in, Cash
for Critters. Cash for Critters raises money for AARF by collecting and
sending in used ink cartridges, laptops, cell phones and even ipods to be
recycled and then AARF receives the money. By giving any of these items
you can save both the environment and the animals and get rid of your old junk! At a time when giving financial donations can be difficult, this is a great way
to help out! No amount is too small to
help! -- Courtney If you have donations for Cash for Critters, please reply to this email and let us know! **We are so grateful for Courtney and all our wonderful volunteers! If you are interested in making a difference by volunteering, please email melanie@aarfatlanta.org.**

AARF PET SPOTLIGHT: TIGGER |
I'm Tigger, a 1-year-old male tuxedo who loves to be petted. I was rescued
from a feral colony along with my brother Nip when we were kittens. My
favorite activity is to hide and then hop out whenever I need some petting and loving. I even squeak to let you know I'm there! I like playing with my brother--if there is catnip involved, someone always ends up in
a headlock! In general, I'm a happy-go-lucky cat. Every afternoon I
get really excited and run around and make a fluttering meow sound. Maybe I'm so happy that I just have to sing! My brother and I have
been inseparable since birth, so it would be best if we go to a home
together. We're up-to-date on our vaccinations, neutered, and FIV/FeLV
negatve. I like watching TV, so if you need a TV buddy then I'm
your guy. Click here to learn more about Tigger!

AARF PET SPOTLIGHT: NIP |
I'm Nip, a healthy, robust 1-year-old tuxedo male who was rescued from a feral colony along with my brother, Tigger. My foster mom has nicknamed me the
Quality Control Manager because I follow her when she's cleaning out
litterboxes and preparing meals to make sure she's doing her job
correctly and efficiently. When I'm not inspecting, I'm relaxing. I
love to lay out in the middle of the floor flat on my back with my
belly in the breeze. I also enjoy playing with catnip-filled toys and
chasing my brother. You're probably wondering if I like to snuggle.
Why, yes, I do. I'm not much of a lap cat, but I like laying down next
to humans that I know and trust. My brother and I have been
inseparable since birth, so it would be best if we go to a home
together. We're up-to-date on our vaccinations, neutered, and FIV/FeLV
negatve. Click here to learn more about Nip!
