Leadership
Pilgrim Institute is
extending a call to parents, educators,
concerned citizens and Christian leaders to
train the rising generation for
leadership. The 22nd Annual Conference,
April 10-11, Del City, OK, will address
American Christian leadership from a Biblical
and historical perspective.
The Principle Approach to
America's Christian history, government and
education is particularly effective in
enabling adults, youth, and children to
exercise discernment, reason from principle,
and assume leadership roles in their own
individual spheres of influence.

The Mighty Works of God:
Self Government
By Ruth J. Smith (For Primary
Age)
The challenge of Self Government, first in
the life of the individual, and then its
historic development in the city, state and
nation is presented in vocabulary for the
young student. Readers consider Christ as the
cause of Self-Government, the Bible in
English and its effect in history, God's Hand
in the discovery of the New World, the
individuals and events which God used to
produce a new nation built upon the idea of
Self Government, and the expansion of the
nation. The delightful illustrations and

The Mighty Works of God:
Divine Providence
By Ruth J. Smith (For Middle
Elementary Age)
The third volume in the series provides an
engaging presentation of God's marvelous hand
in nations - in the placement of men in
nations, the fundamental laws of self and
civil government, Christ and His gift of
internal liberty, Christianity's answer to
pagan ideas, and the westward movement of
Christianity and liberty from Europe to
America. The Revolutionary Period records
abundant evidence of Divine Providence as
Americans struggled to preserve the precious
gift of American liberty. Individuals and a
nation at liberty move forward into a
fascinating era of invention and progress,
leading into the 20th century and the
worldwide struggle to protect liberty against
the threat of tyranny.

Noah Webster: Father of the
Dictionary
By Isabel Proudfit
Illustrated by I.B. Hazelton
This story of the farm boy who worked his way
through Yale and lived through one of the
most exciting periods of American history to
write the first American dictionary is in its
own way as thrilling as that of any
frontiersman hero.
A Connecticut Yankee whose relatives were
among the earliest settlers, the author of
Webster's Spelling Book and the first
American Dictionary was passionately
patriotic. But where others gave the new
country laws and government, he provided
schoolbooks glowing with the American spirit.
Twenty-five million copies of Webster's
Spelling Book went out to the little red
schoolhouses throughout the land during his
lifetime.
The American
Dictionary, which he sat down to write
when he was fifty, was, of course, Webster's
greatest achievement. This book took more
than twenty years to write. It was completely
American in spelling and pronunciation, and
gave first recognition to homespun words like
"whittle" and "tackle," "shaver" and
"chore."
Aside from his crowning achievement, Webster
was an advanced thinker on all the questions
and issues of his day and was practically as
many-sided as Benjamin Franklin.
His influence has been unique and enormous
and young people will find his life absorbing
reading.
