Ricky Gill for Congressional District 9
| |
There's a Congressional campaign in our neighborhood drawing national attention, where Republicans could pick up a seat - the campaign of Ricky Gill. The Republican candidate in District 9, Ricky Gill is a phenomenon. At mid-year he had raised over $1.7 million, well ahead of incumbent Jerry McNerney. He has achieved full "Young Gun" status with the National Republican Congressional Committee by building a formidable campaign structure and reaching important benchmarks. Ricky was invited to address the Republican National Convention this year in Tampa. A small business owner, a family farmer, and a former member of the California State Board of Education, Ricky Gill has a story which speaks to the power of the American dream. Ricky was born and raised in Lodi, in the Central Valley, of immigrant parents. As a high school student, he volunteered at St. Mary's Interfaith Community Services for the Homeless, and at Lodi Memorial Hospital. The Mayor of Lodi appointed him to co-chair the Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission. Ricky graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. He later earned his J.D. degree from Boalt Hall, the law school at UC Berkeley. Ricky Gill is a small business owner who has played an important role in his family's business for years. He has been involved both with the agricultural side of the business as well as the management side of an enterprise that employs 60 people in the San Joaquin Valley. Ricky understands that small business is the engine of job creation. His business experience in the local agriculture industry and in beverage exports positions him well to represent the 9th District on matters of trade and regulatory policy. The 9th Congressional District includes much of San Joaquin County, eastern Contra Costa County, and a bit of Sacramento County. The largest cities are Stockton and Antioch. See the map. Notice the fundraiser for Ricky Gill in the Events list on October 18. You can learn more about Ricky Gill on his campaign website, www.rickygill.com. and in this Washington Post article.

Time for Action
There is a time for reflection, a time for planning, and a time for action. The time for action has arrived. Californians will start voting next week. Now we must devote our maximum energy to elect Republican candidates to office.
This month, we have put the grassroots campaign activities first in a special Action Center, because these are the activities that we believe will make the most difference in the November election.
We have focused this newsletter on campaign activities over the next two weeks and we will send out a mid-month update to cover the second half of October. Feel free to let me know about upcoming campaign events and activities.

Call for GOP Volunteers to go to Nevada as Poll Observers Saturday, Oct. 20 - Friday, Nov. 2 and Election Day - November 6th. Reno, Nevada
The Democrats have been able to get many people to go to Nevada to "register people to vote". In past elections, this strategy has resulted in questionable registrations. The only way to combat this problem is with POLL OBSERVERS. One may vote in Nevada at Polling Places for 14 days of "Early Voting", as well as on Election Day, Nov. 6. Please contact Pat Sheehan if you or friends would be able to travel to Reno to be a POLL OBSERVER during Saturday, Oct. 20 through Friday, Nov. 2 or Election Day - November 6th.
Possible assistance with accommodations is available. Hope you can volunteer! Pat Sheehan SPARC Member Nevada Clean Up the Vote Member 650 814-1751
