Steve Cho for Fremont Mayor
|
| As Fremont moves to select its next mayor, Steve Cho brings the demonstrated experience and commitment to do an outstanding job.
His record shows that Steve Cho knows and cares for Fremont. For more than 28 years, he has been actively involved in making Fremont a better place to live and work.
While raising his daughter, Steve was active in the PTA and Site Councils at her schools and in numerous community and professional organizations. He has served on the City Charter Committee, on the Planning Commission and as the President of Citizens for Better Community.
He served as a Fremont councilmember from 2000 to 2008. As a councilmember, Steve established himself as one of the hardest working and most visible councilmembers of Fremont. Many community members call Steve the "ubiquitous" Cho because he is seen everywhere.
Cho believes a major duty of the mayor is to bring more jobs to Fremont. He believes that Fremont, the Bay Area's fourth largest city, is on the verge of becoming an even greater city.
Steve Cho says that Fremont needs a mayor who spends more time out front to promote the city, who has the conviction and energy to represent Fremont both internally and externally, and who listens more to all citizens. And Steve can do those things.
Steve Cho is a native Californian, who was raised in Los Angeles. He earned his B.A. degree in Mathematics at Washington University (St. Louis, Missouri), and his M.S. in Computer Science at the University of Southern California.
Steve moved to the Bay Area in 1973 and worked as a Systems Analyst for Pacific Telephone in San Francisco. In 1974, he and his wife, Amy, were married and moved to Fremont. Today, Steve is self-employed and operates a software consulting business in Fremont.
Steve has also been active in the community. He is a member of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce and other business associations.
He is Co-President of the Fremont Symphony Orchestra, District Chair for Boy Scouts of America, Mission Peak District, Board Member of Ohlone College Foundation, and Board Member of the Santa Clara Vanguard.
Steve's wife, Amy, is a Business Process Lead for Henkel Corporation. Their daughter Beverly completed her MD degree at UC Irvine and is now in her 2nd year of residency.

Recent Actions Underscore the Case Against Brown's Tax Increase
For those watching the California budget debate, the case for Jerry Brown's tax increase, in the words of Alice in Wonderland, just got "curiouser and curiouser."
Proposition 30, now listed first on the ballot, would increase income tax rates for higher income brackets and increase sales taxes by ¼% and is expected to raise somewhere between $6.8 and $9 billion next year.
Governor Brown argues that these funds are needed for education, but in fact there is no guarantee that the money will go to education. Here is what we now know the governor has in mind for your tax dollars. - High Speed Rail, "the train to nowhere," which received a $6 billion authorization from the legislature and is expected to cost billions more in the future
- The Peripheral Tunnel, estimated to cost $24 billion, and which threatens to blow up the consensus on water policy reached during the prior administration
- Unfunded pension liabilities estimated at between $100 and $500 billion depending on the assumptions used to calculate future investment earnings.
- Unfunded retiree health benefits estimated at $60 billion by the California State Controller's office
- Corrections: The cost to incarcerate an individual has increased from $19,000 in 1988-89 to approximately $49,000 per inmate in 2008-2009 largely due to employee compensation, new programs and court ordered settlements.
In addition, according to CBS News, there is at least a $2 Billion "discrepancy" between the State Controller and the Department of Finance in the amount of special fund dollars that are being reported. In the case of the State Parks Department, the $54 million in hidden funds would have more than offset the $22 million in parks budget cuts imposed in 2011, which forced closures and reduced hours for many California State Parks.
The trigger cuts to education amount to a huge ransom note to California citizens. Brown's message is "Pay more taxes, or we will cut education" while wasting billions in other areas.
By defeating proposition 30, we can send a message that we need real reforms, not tax increases.
The state's finances, as well as our Governor, need to be brought back from Wonderland to reality. |
