Candace Andersen for Contra Costa Supervisor
|
| Danville Mayor Candace Andersen has the experience, the education, and the priorities to be an outstanding supervisor for Contra Costa County.
Andersen has over ten years of City Council experience, a degree in Public Policy, and a legal career as an attorney before she put it on hold to serve the community and raise her family.
Mayor Candace Andersen has received wide support, including endorsements from outgoing Supervisor Gayle Uilkema, the county's top law enforcement leaders, and a broad array of officials and citizens.
The Danville Town Council appointed Candace Andersen to fill a vacancy in 2003, and she won election in 2004 and 2008. She served as Mayor in 2008 and again this year. During this time she has worked on numerous boards and committees, especially in the areas of transportation and land use.
She also has the unusual broadening experience of having served on a second city council, that of Morgan Hill. She was appointed to fill the remainder of a council member's term in 1993-1994, before her husband's job opportunity brought her family to Danville, in the area where he was raised.
While serving on the Morgan Hill City Council, Candace received awards for her work in improving parks, starting a City-wide arboretum, implementing a graffiti eradication program, and for supporting historic preservation. She also worked on regional issues.
Andersen grew up in Honolulu, where she attended Punahou School. She earned her B.A. in Public Policy and later her law degree at BYU. She began her legal career in Honolulu arguing criminal appeals for the prosecution. She later worked in Morgan Hill for a small law firm where her practice included zoning and land use.
Candace has also been active in the community with a variety of organizations including California Women Lead, the Museum of the San Ramon Valley, Friends of the Danville Library, PTA, Scouting, and her church.
Candace Andersen's priorities include ensuring pension sustainability and fiscal responsibility, improving public safety, improving the business climate, and protecting the quality of life in Contra Costa County.
Contra Costa County's District Two includes much of the San Ramon Valley, running from San Ramon to Orinda. You can see the map here.
Candace and her husband Phil have six children ranging in age from 14 to 26.
See the events featuring Candace on April 14, 18 and 26. You can learn more about Candace at her campaign website.

Republican Candidates and Nominees in the June 2012 Election
California's top two primary and the new California Republican Party rules for determination of nominees and endorsements have brought a number of changes to our upcoming June election.
Perhaps the least understood and most broad reaching change is that we now have Republican nominees in many districts throughout the state.
In the past, we had to wait for the results of the June primary to determine our nominees, even though only one Republican might be on the ballot. Now a single Republican running in the open primary becomes our GOP nominee on close of filing. You can review a list of all Bay Area Republican candidates and nominees on our Bay Area Legislative Races webpage.
Once the results of the top two primary are determined, any Republican candidate in a runoff against a non-Republican automatically becomes the Republican nominee.
Republican Party Endorsements
In addition, a number of Republican candidates have received the Republican Party endorsement as the result of a new process involving both Republican County Central Committees and the California Republican Party Board of Directors. Where there is no disagreement between the County and State GOP, the California Republican Party's new rules permit the party endorsement of a GOP candidate prior to the June election. You can review the list of Republican Party endorsed candidates by clicking here.
This system allows the voters to select Republican nominees where more than one Republican is running, but allows the State and County Republican Committees to endorse where no disagreement exists.
Stay tuned, as I expect that this system will be evaluated and modified prior to the next primary election two years from now.
Best regards, Luis
