Donna Austin
Serves Cupertino

As Donna Austin runs for Cupertino City Council, she seeks to continue her long record of service to the community.

Her eight years of service on the city's Planning Commission helped her to understand the planning process and to work with the many aspects of land use in Cupertino.

Austin serves on the board of the Cupertino Historical Society and the Cupertino Library Foundation.  She also serves on the Stocklemeir Task Force, which works on creek restoration, saving the legacy orange orchard on the property and completing a section of trail.

Donna Austin is a past president of Quota of Cupertino and district governor of Quota International, a nonprofit service organization that assists disadvantaged women and children, as well as hearing- and speech-impaired people.

She is also a Lector and Eucharistic Minister for her church and an editor of The C Magazine.

It's no surprise that the Chamber of Commerce named Donna Austin a Citizen of The Year and awarded her its Star Award this year.

Donna's goals on the council include promoting tourism and retail, preserving the city's history, and a strong fiscal policy, including a healthy reserve.  She says "I want to help make Cupertino an even better place to live, work, raise children, and retire."

Donna Austin was born and raised in the Santa Clara Valley.  At 17, she entered the convent and became a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur and taught in Catholic schools.  After 12 years of service, she left the order.

She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees and a teaching credential, and taught for many years in local schools.

Donna and her husband Scot have lived in Cupertino for 34 years; they have twin daughters and 4 grandchildren.

You can learn more about Donna's campaign at her campaign website.

On November 8, many local governments will elect their leaders in off-year elections.

These races are often close to home with relatively low voter turnout. They give us a great opportunity to put some Republicans into office.  Because not every community has an election, we can focus on a few races, concentrate our efforts and maximize our impact.

In this newsletter, we feature two well-qualified local candidates with whom I am acquainted.  Donna Austin is running for Cupertino City Council, and Virginia Chang Kiraly is running for the Menlo Park Fire Protection District board.

Please contact them via their websites to get involved and support their campaigns. Time is short, but there is still plenty of time to make a difference.

Best regards,

Luis

Virginia Chang Kiraly for Menlo Park Fire Protection District Board

In these times of financial challenge for governments at all levels, Virginia Chang Kiraly's experience in financial analysis will be a big asset on the board of the Menlo Park Fire Protection District.

Virginia Kiraly has fifteen years of experience in corporate financial analysis, planning, and investments.  She wants to put her skills to work to maintain financial stability, sustainability and accountability for the District.

As  foreperson of the San Mateo County Civil Grand Jury, she recently led an effort studying pension reform.  Virginia knows that public agencies must limit their pension systems to what they can afford.

Virgina Chang Kiraly also has other experience in the public arena, serving as a commissioner on the California Commission for Economic Development, and on a local community college tax oversight committee.  She has been a leader on the CRP Platform Committee and her local county committee.

She earned her B.A. in government and economics from the University of Texas-Austin.  She has been active in the community, serving as a PTA president, plus a board member for educational foundations, the Tech Museum, the Red Cross and more.

Virginia lives with her husband and kids in Menlo Park.  You can learn more about her campaign on her campaign website.
