The report of the California Citizens Redistricting Commission is sending shockwaves through our political system.  For the last decade, elected officials from both parties have run in largely one-party districts.

However, the next decade will see the number of competitive districts expand dramatically.  Steve Cooley, our GOP nominee for Attorney General in 2010, received 45% of the vote but carried 28 of 53 new congressional districts, 20 of 40 new senate districts and 35 of 80 new assembly districts.  This means we will have 25 to 30 new, competitive districts during the next decade.  To see a complete analysis of competitive districts click here.

At our California Republican Party convention in Los Angeles, we will begin the process of preparing for competitive elections.  The platform committee will have an opportunity to write a platform that will help us win competitive seats.  The CRP will likely consider a number of initiatives that are headed for the 2012 ballot.

BayAreaGOP invites Bay Area Delegates and friends to our convention receptions on Friday and Saturday night at 10 PM in our suite, where we will socialize and discuss convention events.

If you cannot attend, please contact Vic Marani at vicmarani@sbcglobal.net if you live in Santa Cruz, San Benito, Santa Clara or San Mateo counties or Tyler Savage at savage.tyler@gmail.com if you live in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Marin, Solano, Sonoma or Napa counties to coordinate the assignment of your proxy.  You can download a proxy form here.

I hope to see you at the convention in Los Angeles September 16-18.

Best regards,

Luis
