Bay Area GOP March Newsletter

Bay Area Republican Vice Chair Morgan Kelley

Morgan Kelley is enthusiastic about the Republican Party work she has done over the last two years, and wants to continue it.

She is the Regional Vice Chairman for the Bay Area and is running for reelection at this month's California Republican Party convention.

Her responsibilities are to provide leadership and support to the six County Central Committees and support the election of Republicans in the Bay Area region.

Morgan also represents the Bay Area on the CRP Board of Directors, a task that sometimes requires travelling to meetings around the state.

Morgan serves as Chairman of the CRP Proxies and Credentials Committee and was one of two people in Northern California to be elected to the Platform Drafting Committee.

She also stays active in the Novato Republican Women and the Marin Republican Central Committee, where she serves as Precinct and Registration Chairman.

"The past two years have proved challenging but promising," Morgan says.   There have been several difficult county leadership transitions recently, and Morgan has assisted county committees in working through changes while following proper procedure and keeping focused on supporting and electing Republicans.

Having served herself as Marin County Republican Chairman, Morgan is well versed in what it takes to run a county party and how to assist county chairs.  She also has experience as a Republican Women club president and regional director.

She has been a Republican grass roots volunteer since she was a teenager in Kansas working for Bob Dole's senatorial campaign.

After graduating from CSU-Fullerton, Morgan worked in technical sales, and sales management for National Semi-Conductor, Honeywell, G.E. and Lightolier. She now owns and manages an apartment complex.

She and her husband Rich, another staunch Republican, have three kids and reside in Greenbrae.

At the March California Republican Party convention, delegates will have a chance to consider how to position the party to win more seats in the upcoming election cycle.  This cycle will feature new, more competitive districts and a top two primary approved by the voters last June.

The Republican leaders of the California Assembly, State Senate and Congressional Delegation have introduced a series of reforms to determine how the party will select nominees and make endorsements in this new political environment.

Historically, the CRP has avoided preprimary endorsements in order to build party unity behind the eventual nominee.  The leadership proposals recognize that post proposition 14, there could be compelling reasons for the party to endorse before the primary and the proposals establish a process to endorse candidates in those situations.  They also empower voters, not party insiders, to select nominees.

The proposals also ensure that, barring extraordinary circumstances, a lone Republican facing a Democrat in the general election will be the party's nominee - something the current bylaws do not guarantee.  You can check out the complete list of proposed bylaw amendments by clicking here.

BayAreaGOP invites Bay Area Delegates and friends to our convention receptions on Friday and Saturday night at 10 PM, where we will socialize and discuss convention events.  Please check the convention agenda for the suite location when you arrive.

If you cannot attend, please contact Joe Cadelago at jcadelago@gmail.com  or 916-710-0842 to coordinate the assignment of your proxy.

I look forward to seeing you at the convention March 18-20 in Sacramento.

Best regards,
Luis
