Coro Fellows Program in Public Affairs
| | Perhaps you know a young adult who would benefit from an intensive public affairs training program. Founded in 1947, the Coro Fellows Program in Public Affairs is a nine-month, full-time, graduate-level program that introduces participants to all aspects of public affairs.
The Program combines experiential learning, close interaction with key decision-makers, and development in analytical, group governance, and communication skills.
The Coro Fellows Program is rigorous and demanding. The Fellows Program is offered in Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh, San Francisco and St. Louis.
Coro's current S.F. board chair is Luis Buhler. Luis is a Coro graduate and past California Republican Party Vice Chairman for the San Francisco Bay Area region. Luis credits much of his success to his Coro experience and has agreed to be available to anyone who would like to learn more about his Coro experience. He can be emailed here.
Coro considers ideological diversity to be very important. Luis is working to make sure that each class includes Fellows who hold conservative political views.
Past Coro alums have included members of the Reagan administration and both Bush administrations, as well as the Wilson and Schwarzenegger administrations in California. They have also served as members of Congress and state legislatures, legislative staffers, city managers, and leaders in education.
Cited by Princeton Review as one of the top ten fellowships in the country, the Coro Fellows Program familiarizes participants with all facets of the public affairs arena through field placements, weekly seminars, interviews, and focus weeks. Each Fellow works in a series of month long projects with a government agency, political campaign, business, labor union, non-profit organization, and an independent placement.
Skill-based seminars delve into negotiation, facilitation, consensus building, public speaking and project management. Fellows are also introduced to a variety of tools to help them think and act effectively.
Fellows conduct hundreds of interviews with prominent leaders in their respective sectors or issues to inform their learning of public affairs.
Focus weeks provide week long immersions to explore a sector or area. Fellows may explore such topics as state government, agriculture, media, international affairs and education.
Monthly stipends and tuition scholarships are available based on documented financial need.
Completed applications are due by FRIDAY, JANUARY 14th, 2011. In order to apply for the program, you must first fill out a pre-application at www.coro.org/fellowspreapp.
Once the pre-application is complete, you can begin the application process. Applications will be submitted online; you can access the application by visiting www.coro.org/fellowsapp.
If you have any questions, come to the Open House on December 6 or contact Yolanda De La Paz, Outreach Manager, at ydelapaz@coro.org or 415.986.0521 ext. 103.

| December, 2010 | Luis Buhler, Publisher |
I want to thank all of you who worked so hard on behalf of our Republican candidates this year. I especially want to thank the candidates themselves, both for giving immense amounts of their time and energy, and for delivering our message of jobs and fiscal responsibility to every corner of the Bay Area.
Congratulations to Mark Peterson, the new District Attorney in Contra Costa County, and to Mike Wasserman, our newly elected Santa Clara County Supervisor. Congratulations are also in order to many other successful local Republican candidates.
We can take some encouragement from the results of the statewide ballot initiatives. Californians defeated new statewide taxes whenever they appeared. Proposition 20, sponsored by Santa Clara GOP Central Committee Vice Chair Charles Munger, Jr., passed overwhelmingly. The Democrats' poison pill, Proposition 27, was defeated. These results insure that we will have fair congressional and legislative districts for the 2012 elections.
This raises the question of what we need to do differently to be more successful in 2012 when districts will be more competitive. Clearly changes are needed. I welcome your comments and thoughts on what those changes should be. I hope you will enjoy one or more of the Republican holiday events listed below and have a very Merry Christmas!
Best regards,Luis
