India in Africa

The big news this month is that the container full of India pumps and parts has finally arrived at Berberati! These will be used to repair broken wells around the country, providing water for hundreds of people. The well repair teams will be using these parts to complete repair work on pumps in the north yet this year, as well as into next year.

Dry season in full swing – time to hit the road!
The Berberati garage crew has been working hard to get the drill rig, supply trucks, and the support trucks overhauled and ready for another year of service. After spending some time at home with their families during the C.A.R. independence day celebration (on December 1), the drill team is now back on the road. Check out our facebook page if you'd like to see some pictures of the Dec 1 parade - ICDI had a float in the parade again this year - complete with working hand pump!

Listen Up Brothers!

The ICDI Micro-Enterprise group pictured below chose the name Ita Mo Ma, which means literally "Listen up brothers" - they're excited to share with others what they've been able to do with their micro-enterprise loan. They've got their own food stands at the market - buying from farmers and reselling in the market brings in a steady income for them. These women are very grateful for those who have given to ICDI's MED program, providing them with the loan to get their food stands off the ground!

ICDI's Micro-Enterprise program gives loans to small groups of 5-7 people, with each individual receiving up to $100. This allows people to work together to finance larger projects, and work together to handle the business responsibilities. ICDI has a long list of applicants for loans, who are just waiting for financing. If you would like to donate to ICDI's Micro-Enterprise program, allowing us give out more loans, please contact us - trondeau@icdinternational.org

Sayere Project

ICDI has been involved in the village of Sayere for several years now - a well has been drilled, latrines built, an agricultural project started with Tokondo, ICDI's Central African Agriculture Director. A pharmacy has also just been built - as an experiment for a micro-enterprise project. The pharmacy will be run by the villagers, allowing them to re-sell over-the counter medications for a small profit.
