CPD Newsletter

April 2011

Message from the Director

Following our March conference at USC, "Faith Diplomacy: Religion and Global Publics," we took another step with our Faith Diplomacy Initiative by presenting a briefing on the topic at USC's Washington, DC office.  We had a lively discussion with great participation by our audience, including ambassadors and U.S. government officials. This is a topic we will pursue through publications and a continuing series of events.

As the semester nears its end, so does the tenure of our current Public-Diplomat-in-Residence, Bob Banks.  Bob is a career Foreign Service Officer who has been assigned to CPD by the State Department.  He has been with us for two years and has been a valuable resource for the Center and students in the MPD program.  His work on the evaluation of public diplomacy has been invaluable.  We will miss Bob and the graduating CPD Interns, wish them well on their next endeavors and look forward to keeping in close touch.

We are accepting applications for this year's Summer Institute, and we already have the makings of an outstanding class of diplomats and other professionals.  If you or anyone you know might be interested in attending, please visit our Summer Institute information page.

Warm regards,
Philip Seib
Director, USC Center on Public Diplomacy
