July 2010

Message from the Director

One of the high points for us each year is
our Summer Institute in Public Diplomacy -
two weeks of intensive training for
diplomats from around the world. This
year we have 30 participants, a
fascinating and delightful group of women
and men who teach us as we teach
them.  Training is among the key services provided by CPD, and we are always happy to discuss specially designed training offerings for interested governments or others.

Also during July we have been presenting a series of video blogs from the CPD team at the Shanghai Expo.  I urge you to take a look at these reports, which can be found on our website.  In addition, you might read the new issue of PD Magazine, which examines ways that public diplomacy can advance human rights.

As we prepare for the new academic year, we are moving forward on major research projects related to water diplomacy and international broadcasting.  We are also finishing up several publications, including a report on our recent conference, "Science Diplomacy and the Prevention of Conflict," and new monographs in our CPD Perspectives on Public Diplomacy series.

So, no summer doldrums for us.  As always, please do not hesitate to let us hear from you about how we're doing.

Sincerely,
Philip Seib
Director, USC Center on Public Diplomacy
