Message from the Director

As we begin 2010, all of us at CPD wish you a happy new year and happy new decade.  Our principal task this month is preparing for our conference, "Science Diplomacy and the Prevention of Conflict," which will take place on the USC campus February 4 and 5.  We define science diplomacy as international scientific cooperation that transcends the politics of the moment by fostering collaborative relationships that address public needs.  Our emphasis on conflict prevention is illustrated by cases our panels will discuss, including Arab-Israeli cooperative study of peaceful uses of atomic energy, exchanges between the United States and North Korea, joint ventures involving China and India, and others.

This is the kind of public diplomacy that is building bridges and bettering lives.  Please join us at USC on February 4 and 5, and take a look at the Science Diplomacy material on the CPD Web site.
