Message from the Director |
Those of us at the Center on Public Diplomacy move into October encouraged by our September. At the Newseum in Washington, D.C., we hosted a book launch for Toward a New Public Diplomacy: Redirecting U.S. Foreign Policy, which includes chapters by several CPD-affiliated authors. More than 130 people joined us for a panel discussion featuring four chapter authors and then for a reception on the Newseum terrace overlooking the Capitol. This gave us a chance to reconnect with many friends of CPD and marked the beginning of a more consistent CPD presence in Washington. We also are proud to announce our first three CPD Research Fellows, whose projects are described elsewhere in this newsletter. As part of their work with us, they will contribute monographs to our new CPD Perspectives in Public Diplomacy series, which is available on line and on paper. For a hard copy, please send a request to cpd@usc.edu. At the end of September, we met with our new University Fellows - members of the USC community who are interested in public diplomacy - to bring them up to speed about what we are working to accomplish. This group includes the Vice Provost for Globalization, the Dean of Religious Life, the associate director of the US-China Institute, and others who offered valuable suggestions about CPD's future. All that leads us into October. We look forward to another good month.
Philip Seib, Director USC Center on Public Diplomacy
