Message from the Director

No summer doldrums at CPD. We've just completed our Summer Institute with 27 diplomats from around the world. We plan to offer versions of the Institute to governments and others as part of our expanding outreach efforts.

We are also deep into planning for two upcoming events:
On Sept. 8, CPD will join with USC's School of Journalism to present a lunchtime forum, "Iran: New Politics, New Media," featuring New York Times columnist Roger Cohen, NPR correspondent Mike Shuster, Karim Sadjadpour from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and independent scholar Mahasti Afshar. And on Sept. 14, CPD will go to Washington for a panel discussion and reception at the Newseum to launch a new book, Toward a New Public Diplomacy: Redirecting U.S. Foreign Policy, and a new book series, the Palgrave Macmillan Series in Global Public Diplomacy. We will also discuss some of the Center's new ventures, including our own publishing program for case studies and working papers.

As always, we look forward to hearing from you with any suggestions for ways we can enhance the work of the Center.
