>>Stage a sit-in

A young woman in Salisbury, England, saw that her car had been wrongly immobilized with a boot. Angry at the thought of missing work over something that wasn't her fault, she decided to up the ante and miss work for something definitely WAS her fault. She locked hersefl in the car, thereby preventing it from being towed. She remained in the vehicle for about 30 hours, until a parking inspector dropped by and removed the boot.

Greetings!

The Northern Ireland Bodyshop Alliance (NIBA) has issued a recommded price list, giving amounts for what it says a shop should be charging for certain items in order to maintain profitability.

The association says the 2011 recommended retail price list reflects the increased costs experienced by collision repair facilities. Suggested rates include an hourly labour rate of £38.50 ($59.97 CAD) and £44.00 per hour ($68.54 CAD) for prestige vehicles.

There are two questions I've been pondering. First, would this work here? Second, will it even work there, or will someone break association solidarity to offer discounts? Please let me know what you think.

See you next week. Take care,

Photos from PPG Spring MVP Conference

The PPG Spring MVP Business Solutions Conference took place at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa in Palm Springs, California from March 27 - 29.

Ken Freisen at Palm Springs

"The conference theme is Journey to Excellence," said Norm Angrove, Senior Manager, Value Added Programs. "This conference represents what the industry is all about. The expectations on performance excellence as it relates to quality, speed and cost continues to rise. From the marketing perspective, collision centres need to focus on the marketing to the different generations. The opportunity in the area of social media marketing was a major component of the conference. The participants represent some of our best PPG customers in North America who clearly understand that the journey to excellence is not a sprint but rather a marathon."

10 Tips to Better Pricing

Pricing is one of the most powerful-yet underutilized- strategies available to collision repair companies. A McKinsey and Company study of the Global 1200 found that if companies increased prices by just 1 per cent, and demand remained constant, on average operating profits would increase by 11 per cent.

Sincerely,

The Collision Repair Team.
