>>Heart attack? Take your time

Paramedics in Edmonton got a memo in December from Alberta Health Services telling them not to speed, even when they're responding to an emergency with lights blazing and siren wailing. "Our job is to save lives," AHS wrote, "not put them in jeopardy." According to ambulance drivers interviewed by the CBC, police have been issuing tickets to drivers on emergencies if they speed or go through red lights.

Greetings!

Last week we updated you regarding the discussion on process improvement taking place in the Collision Repair forums. We've got another update for you this week on the same topic.

Last week, we mentioned that Scott was requesting information on lean processes.

I am working on production and administrative process for our shop right now. I would appreciate any assistance or copies of other's written process to use as guides as I go through this exercise.

Sharon Wells responded with this:

Scott, if you have not already read "The Hitchhiker's Guide to Lean" by Flinchbaugh and Carlino, I highly recommend it, it is one of my lean favorites; easy read with practical advice.

We'll be featuring a review of this book in an upcoming issue. In the meantime, you can post advice and questions of your own at collisionrepairmag.com/forums. Click the "reply" button and post away! You don't even need to log in.

See you next week. Take care,

OARA presents Halton Heart & Stroke Foundation with $10,000 donation

The Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association (OARA) presented the Halton Heart & Stroke Foundation with a $10,000 donation at the organization's Pastafest 2011 event.

Pastafest was held at the Burlington Golf and Country Club. OARA's donation will be in support of life saving research and program enhancement for the children in the Halton community.

Hundreds of Heart and Stroke Foundation supporters gathered at the annual event to feast on pasta, bid on exclusive items in a silent auction, and enjoy an evening of great entertainment. Proceeds from the event, which raised $9000 in 2009, and $84,000 since inception, will go toward funding research into heart disease, one of the leading causes of death for Canadians.

OARA helped to raise the $10,000 by hosting a skate-a-thon at Bronte Park in Oakville.
