Greetings!

I've spent a good deal of my free time the last few days taking in the sites of Vancouver's Olympics and I've decided one thing: the biggest value the Olympics has to offer is that it brings people from all around the world to one place. I've had a lot of conversations and experiences that I don't think would be possible without having the event as a centre piece.

I'm a firm believer in the value of getting people together (physically) to discuss ideas or even just to get to know each other. Connecting at a distance has its value too, but I've always felt we lose something by not being able to shake a hand, share a beer or sit across a table.

That said, I'd like to wish a bon voyage to everyone leaving for the Sherwin-Williams cruise this week. Take lots of pictures and tell us all about it. I hope it offers you lots of opportunities to get together and share some ideas.

See you next week. Take care,

-Joe Rayment

Karl Selander and Otto HendricksonAbout the town

I was pleasantly surprised after last week's eZine when Karl Selander, founder and president of ATCOA, sent along some 60s-era photos of the ATCOA Viking Piston Air Sander. The tool is now celebrating its 50th birthday.

To the right is a photo from 1960 of Karl Selander and Otto Hendrickson holding prototypes of the sanders in Otto's back yard.

More photos...

Thank you Karl. Your email was probably the most interesting part of my week.

If anyone else has photos they think might be of interest to readers drop us a line--we'd love to see them.

Collision repair around the world

2009 was a tough year for the global economy, and the auto industry wasn't spared any pain. As plunging car sales continued to dominate the market, the collision repair industry faced its share of challenges as well.

AutoMind's mobile siteLean on-line

Good collision repair facilities are always looking for ways to improve their operations. Depending on your strengths and the pool of talent you're drawing from, this will manifest itself in a lot of different ways. Among the talents at British Columbia's AutoMind is a considerable aptitude for technology. So one of the ways they found to innovate their business was to incorporate a strong web-presence into their customer experience.
