Silver Lining
: A accident in Germany involving 259 cars amazingly resulted in no deaths. There were 66 people injured, and 10 of those were considered serious. However, given the size of the accident, it really is amazing no one was killed. It took 340 emergency workers well into the next morning to finish dealing with the people and vehicles involved and the clean-up cost is expected to exceed over $2.5 million.

There's Power, and Then There's POWER!:
Just one cylinder from the engine of an eight cylinder Top Fuel dragster or a Funny Car produces 750 horsepower, roughly equal to the entire horsepower output of a NASCAR engine.

And Super-Power!: The next generation of plug-in hybrid cars could recharge in minutes, thanks to a new type of battery designed by scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It charges about 100 times as fast as normal lithium ion batteries.

Greetings!

I hope you all had a good Labour Day. It's the only holiday that exists solely to honour working people, so it deserves a special mention.

The seeds of trade unions go back to a time when workers who shared certain skills gathered together to discuss the issues of the day with people who shared a similar outlook.

With Labour Day just past, maybe it's time to connect with other business  people. Why not check in on our your trade association or your local chamber of commerce? You might learn something and meet some people who share your concerns.

Ontario Tire Industry Rolls Out Recycling Program

A new tire recycling program rolling out in Ontario will bring new life to the millions of used tires that come off vehicles in the province every year by responsibly recycling them into useful products, creating investment and new green jobs, driving innovation. The Used Tires Program is being funded by the tire industry, and managed by Ontario Tire Stewardship.

Through a network of Registered Collectors - which includes retailers, municipalities and other drop-off points across the province - the program will allow Ontarians to drop off up to four used tires per person, at no charge, to be collected and recycled. Tracking systems will help eliminate the illegal dumping of scrap tires and ensure that used tires are managed by service providers that have adopted best environmental practices.

"Ontario's Used Tires Program marks the most ambitious used tire program in the country," said Andrew Horsman, Executive Director of Ontario Tire Stewardship. "The Program will remove tire stockpiles, recycle tires into household, commercial and automotive products, and create green jobs and economic benefits right here in our province."
