Sharp Observers: Police in New York repeatedly ticketed an illegally parked minivan for weeks before noticing that its occupant was dead, the deceased man's daughter has claimed. Jennifer Morales said she spoke to her 59-year-old father in early May. She believes that he may have died from a heart attack while sitting in the family's Chevrolet Ventura.








Switch Out is having a contest! Registered participant that send in at least two collection pails in 2009 will be automatically entered.The winning business will be featured in an article in the 2010 edition of Canadian Auto Recyclers magazine.

Traffic First: The first known signal device for regulating street traffic was installed in 1868 in London near the Houses of Parliament. Designed by railroad signal engineer JP Knight, it had two semaphore arms that indicated either "stop" or "caution," depending on their position. At night, red and green gas lights were used.

Later, but Better: A contender for inventor of the first electric traffic light is Lester Wire of Salt Lake City. The lights were colored with red and green dye and shone through circular openings.

Annual Assured Automotive Cruise to Benefit MS Society
The Annual Assured Automotive Charity Cruise took place June 25 in Toronto Harbour aboard the River Gambler. The event, which benefits the MS Society, proved to be a tremendous success. Over 400 members of the auto claims economy were in attendance, including Assured Automotive staff, and insurance and dealership partners.

ARC and ARAAC Hold Joint Meeting

Auto Recyclers of Canada (ARC) and the Automotive Recyclers Association of Atlantic Canada (ARAAC) hosted a Joint Meeting of the two associations on June 26, 2009 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. For recyclers, it was a chance to find out what is happening in their industry on a national and regional scale.
