Greetings!

Communication is always great. Think about it. Even getting bad news is good when it's information you need to hear. Positive news is even better.

I thought I'd share with you a letter I received recently about one of our articles. Feel free to send your own emails heading my way.

Dear Editor,

I am responding to your March 23, 2009 story (SAAR secures higher door rates for Saskatchewan Repairers).

Your story fails to mention two significant points. The first is that SGI entered into discussions with a committee composed of both Saskatchewan Association of Automotive Repairers (SAAR) and the Saskatchewan Auto Dealers Association (SADA) members. The chair of the committee was a SADA representative. SAAR, SADA and SGI executed the agreement with respect to new labour rates.  All parties to the discussion played important roles in reaching an agreement.

The second point is that the agreement is for a blended rate. The $67.00 repair rate now applies to all auto repair functions, which historically had differing rates. The auto repair industry proposed the blended rate. To SGI's knowledge this is the first blended rate agreement in Canada and is another example of SGI's willingness to work with the auto repair industry.

Yours truly,

Repairers Tee Off for 40th Annual Golden Horseshoe Golf Tournament

Almost eighty golfers enjoyed a private course outing at Dundas Valley Golf and Curling Club, and finished off a steak dinner cooked on the balcony.

A donation from the day's golfers will be made to the Don McLaughlin Automotive Scholarship Trust at Mohawk College to
help financially needy students enter or stay in automotive apprenticeships. Don, former owner of Goodturn Ride Centres, was remembered as a great golfer and friend, and his passion for both the industry and for bringing new students into the trade will long be remembered after his tragic passing.
