Racing Fans:
Way back in 1903 two auto executives decided to race their own cars, mostly for bragging rights. Ransom E. Olds raced his "Pirate" against Alexander Winton in his "Bullet." That race was hold on Ormond Beach. You may know it better under it's modern name: Daytona Beach!

Four Brands: Starting in 1908, William C. Durant began selling stock in a new venture called General Motors (you may have heard of them). He then used the cash (and more stock) to buy four existing car companies: Buick, Cadillac, Oldsmobile, and Oakland. Oakland's name was later changed to Pontiac.

First some good news: The Saskatchewan Association of Automotive Repairers (SAAR) has successfully negotiated with Saskatchewan General Insurance (SGI) for a higher door rate for collision repair shops.

Now the bad news: At $67/hour, this still lags way behind most other trades. You can see the full story below for all the details.

SAAR Secures Higher Door Rates from SGI

by Brady Yauch

Collision repair facilities in Saskatchewan are getting a much-needed boost in door rates from the province's government insurance program Saskatchewan General Insurance (SGI). As part of the agreement between the Saskatchewan Association of Automotive Repairers (SAAR) and SGI, shops are now entitled to a door rate of $67 an hour-up as much as ten dollars from the previous rate. The agreement comes after intense negotiations between SAAR and SGI.

"It's a step in the right direction," says SAAR's Executive director Bill Ziebart. "But it's far short of where we need to be," he quickly adds. SAAR thinks that shops should be compensated at a comparable door rate offered to other four-year journeymen-which is anywhere between $85 to $125 an hour.
