Is This For Real?
Rocket Man: Body tech Steve Evans is building himself a very fast toy; a 1/10 scale model replica of the Saturn V rocket that first took man to the moon! Eves used fiberglass resin and aircraft-grade plywood to create the shell of a rocket that will go from zero to 500 miles per hour in less than a second. He estimates the 36-foot, 1,800 pound rocket will need about 200 pounds of fuel to launch it nearly a mile high.
Finders Keepers?: Police in Toronto discovered an empty Lamborghini facing the wrong way after crashing through the barrels on Hwy. 401. The driver appears to have fled on foot, leaving an automobile worth about $385,000 behind.

Did you Know...?
Need for Speed:
Radios were first offered in automobiles in 1923.
Safety State: The first auto insurance policy was purchased in Massachusetts. Considering Boston's traffic problems, this makes sense.

Greetings!
Social networking isn't just for teenagers and college students. Sites like Facebook and MySpace have a lot to offer for those looking to network professionally. Rather than being exclusive to the younger set, Facebook's users include people of all ages and from all walks of life.
One of the best ways to network on Facebook is to join a group. After you join, you can search for these and join as many (or as few) as appeal to you. One you should definitely check out is the Collision Repair magazine group. It's a great way to interact with other collision professionals.
You can register (it's free) for Facebook here. If you're already a Facebook member, you can jump straight to the Collision Repair magazine group by clicking here.

CARSTAR "Soaps it Up" for CF, Breaks Fundraising Record
Hundreds of CARSTAR franchisees and volunteers helped raise over $80,000
for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CCFF) and other local fundraising
groups at the fifth annual CARSTAR
"Soaps it Up" for Cystic Fibrosis National
Car Wash' Day. This year, there were more than 55 car wash events across the
country and last year's total was surpassed by $15,000.
"I am very impressed with this year's
"Soaps it Up!" fundraising campaign," said
Sam Mercanti, President and CEO, CARSTAR Automotive Canada. "We beat last
year's total and couldn't have done it without the support of our franchisees
and partners as well as CCFF volunteers, local fundraising groups and the
CARSTAR staff members across the country. We continue to be amazed by the
effort put forth by our franchisees and their demonstration of commitment to
their communities."
CARSTAR volunteers, community groups and local chapters of the CCFF helped soap up over 4,000 vehicles during the event, which took place on Saturday,
June 14, 2008.

International News
By Mike Tersigni
The collision repair industry continues to make news around the
world, with BASF remodeling its training centre in Germany,
and some industry groups criticizing the availability of electronic stability
control systems in Europe. In England, RSA has joined forces with Audatex UK to improve its claims settlement and parts
sourcing operations, while PPG in the US has sold a controlling stake in
its automotive glass business. Finally, both Solera and I-CAR Australia
make some changes with new appointees to high-ranking positions.
BASF Coatings Builds State-of-the-Art Training Centre
BASF Coatings has recently embarked on a program of complete
rebuilding and refurbishment. The Glasurit training center, located on the site
of BASF Coatings in Munster,
Germany, has
been considered one of the most modern training facilities for spray painter
training since its inauguration 24 years ago. Since the content and methods of
spray painter training have changed since then, so too must the features of the
training centre.
Jürgen Book, head of Customer Service at BASF coatings, explained
that, "Extensive modernization is necessary, in order to stimulate efficient
workshop processes and so help the customers consistently improve the efficiency
of their businesses."
