Well, Duh: In Tennessee it is illegal to drive a car while sleeping. Presumably Tennessee has other laws like this. For example, no piloting aircraft while sleeping, no operating heavy equipment while sleeping, and of course, no performing complicated brain surgery using a rusty jack knife while sleeping.

Stupid is Free: A citizen of the United Arab Emirates paid roughly $14 million at an auction for a license plate that simply listed the number one (1) on it. He explained, "I bought it because I want to be the best in the world." We have a simpler explanation. He's an idiot.

Gridlock Gone Mad: In Tokyo, Japan, a bicycle is faster than a car for most trips!

High Cost: The total cost of exhibits at the North American International Auto Show comes out to more than $200 million!

Greetings!

Is this the end of the collision repair business? With an alarmist opening sentence like that, you know you've got to keep reading.

Thatcham Testing Collision Avoidance Systems

A buzzer sounds. Your seatbelt tightens. The brakes depress. You have just avoided an accident without even knowing it was about to happen. These are some of the actions you can expect to experience in your car with the latest collision prevention technologies from three of the major car companies.

Currently being tested at the British Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre (better known as Thatcham), the Volvo City Safety, Mercedes Distronic Plus, and Honda CMBS use radar systems to prevent low speed collisions. The systems use LIDAR, essentially a form of radar that uses lasers instead of radio waves.
