Union Square Farmers Market
Saturdays, 9 am to 1 pm
After an early close last week for the Fluff festival, we're back to normal this week and the rest of the season. We'll be on the plaza with fresh, delicious food from 9-1 every Saturday through Nov 17.
We continue to match up to $10 a week when you swipe your EBT card for market products. If you haven't tried the token system yet, visit the managers booth and spread the word! We offer market bucks in any full dollar amount from your debit or credit card (no pesky ATM fees!) and turn $10 into $20 of spending power for EBT purchases.
'Tis the season for soup! Have you tried celery root soup? We made some last week with celeraic, potatoes, and onions from Drumlin farm. Here's a version of the recipe with apples. Check with Tommy Nicewicz or the folks at Kimball Fruit Farm about which apples to buy. Skip the pancetta and go with bacon from Stillman's or Hollis Hills.
Another October winner is savory bread pudding, making great use of those leftover bread ends from Iggy's! This recipe is delicious with wild foraged mushrooms from Parker Farm. Three of our vendors carry eggs: Stillman's, Hollis Hills, and organic eggs from Misty Brook.
Market Guests: Stir it up Cuisine, a favorite from the Swirl and Slice market is at our Saturday market this week. Stop by and try their famous pepper jelly and delicious cheese tarts baked with pepper jelly glaze. Amaze Face Painting is back on the plaza with face painting by donation all day. Brighten up your October morning - Nicole has adult friendly styles, too!
Music: Come listen to Michael Maloney, on the plaza starting around 11. Check out their upbeat Alt Pop sounds.

Vendor Profile: Flats Mentor

Did you try the Brazillian cucumbers last week? Maxixe is hands down the cutest crop we had at market last week. Visit Flat's to buy a bunch and enjoy them in a salad. Ask Vu for other preparation tips.
Vu has a plot at Flat's mentor Farm in Bolton and does almost all the gardening herself. She grows beautiful vegetables not found at many other stands - water spinach, amaranth, lemongrass, pursland, and maxixe! She also has very nice greens -- bok choi, tat soy, lettuces, pea tendrils, and more. Her meticulous plot reflects her hard work and dedication, and the quality of the final product can't be beat.
