QuickBooks Tip
Online Banking
If you haven't synchronized QuickBooks with your bank account through online banking, it's time to get out of the stone age... QuickBooks allows you to import transactions from the bank account and QuickBooks can remember transactions so you don't have to enter them every single time they come in (big time saver). If your bank offers Bill Pay, then you can even pay your bills through QuickBooks! No more need to print checks and mail them (another big time saver and money saver), Quickbooks will do it for you when you sync your file with the bank. If you need any help setting up online banking in QuickBooks, give us a call...

Summer Phishing Fun...
It is not a misprint on the title. In computers, "phishing" is the phrase used to describe email that falsely claims to be from an established legitimate source in an attempt to lure the reader into disclosing confidential information. In a typical "phishing" scheme, "phishers" send out mass emails which purport to be from an official source-usually an online vendor or financial institution. The ultimate purpose of this scam is for users to surrender personal information (such as account numbers, social security information, or worse, login credentials) to be used for illegitimate purposes. "Phishing" is today the most prevalent kind of internet fraud. It is one more useless nuisance that can become ever so dangerous, all the way to our pockets.
To tread safely on the email world, it is important to recognize the signs of phishing. Such emails usually contain an urgent message in an attempt to bait unsuspecting readers into submitting sensitive information. The messages contain links that direct the recipient to fake websites created just to collect information. These phony websites may look and feel similar to that of the legitimate entity they are trying to portray (eg, a bank or insurance company). Usually, however, there are some small but sure signs that things are not all right. Among them are misspellings in the body of the message or a sloppy-looking logo. Having said that, some phishers have become better grammatically and more skilled in their graphic (copying) talents.
To protect yourself, follow some basic guidelines: Be extremely wary of emails that ask for confidential information; financial institutions and any responsible entities do not request personal information via email. Do not be pressured into providing sensitive information; phishers usually resort to scare tactics, threatening to disable an account or services until you provide or confirm certain information. It is best to err on the safe side: contact the supposed company by other means if you are not sure of the authenticity of the request. One more technical preventive measure: never submit information in a form embedded within an email message.
Knowing how to recognize the signs of phishing is the key to keeping safe. So, next time you want to have a relaxing fishing outing, make sure it's the one with an "f" and not with a "ph"(!!)

Tech Corner Tablets Replacing Laptops?
With so many new tablets floating around nowadays, one begins to think... Are tablets going to replace laptops? The answer is probably not. But with technology moving ahead so fast, tablets may already be a better alternative for some.
On just the merit of convenience, tablets are the way to go. Tablets provide nearly instant start up, which means quicker emails, quicker research, and more productivity. In a world where every second counts, that adds up to a lot of time saved. Tablets are generally lighter and have better battery life than laptops. So not only is a tablet going to give you a boost with productivity on the go, they are also easier to travel with. Tablets free you from the hassle of carrying around a heavy laptop and the worry of always needing to find somewhere to plug in your bulky charger.
Tablets may never fully replace laptops because of the full funcionality you have with a computer, but if you use a laptop mainly for the convenience of working on the go, then a shiny new tablet may just make your life a whole lot easier.
