Notes from the Field...
This month I write with musical undertones from our visit to the Grand Ole Opry while in Nashville, TN, for the Scaling New Heights conference. I was honored to facilitate sessions every day of this national QuickBooks consultants conference -- including the first session to be sold out within minutes of conference registration opening (Advanced Excel with QQube full-day workshop).
A great big thanks to my colleague Chuck Vigeant, on many levels. QQube is the result of Chuck's 35 years work in the accounting and database technology arena. I am humbled by his friendship and support.

Mike's Tech Corner What is HAM? And what is BACON?
I am not talking about dinner. I am talking about email and lots of it.
We all know what SPAM is. The technical definition is "unsolicited bulk email". Most people know it as "JUNK" email. There are two types of SPAM. One is to get you to purchase a product. The other one is more malevolent and devious in its way to trick you into installing a Trojan or clicking on a website link to infect your computer.
But HAM is something different. It is information from companies or partners you have a relationship with. It could be sales emails from Macy's or it could be informational newsletters. This alone does not make it HAM. It is only items that you don't want to receive anymore. Most of these emails do have an unsubscribe link. If it is something that you know is a legitimate email from a company but you no longer wish to receive it please use the unsubscribe to get your email off of their list. (Before you even think about it, know that if you unsubscribe from our newsletter you will be missing our informative tech tips!)
So with this new knowledge, what is BACON? Well, quite simply... delicious.

Be Ready for Hurricane Season

Everyone knows the basic hurricane preparedness rules, have enough fresh water, food, shutters, batteries, and so on. But many people seem to overlook their automobiles when it comes to hurricanes. If the picture above is your idea of getting your car ready for a storm (!!), we have some hurricane safety tips for your car.
- Make sure you have a full tank of gas before the storm (No one wants to be in those lines after the hurricane)
- Make sure your spare tire is good and ready for use
- Try to park on high ground
- Avoid parking near a tree or under the ledge of a roof with roof tiles
- If you need to drive after a hurricane (hopefully not during) avoid driving through water -- it may be deeper than it looks
- Pack supplies (car charger, food, cash, water) in the trunk in case there's an emergency and you need to evacuate
Of course, with a hurricane nothing is guaranteed, but follow these tips and for sure you'll be better off than the genius in the picture above.
