How to Open a Second QuickBooks Company

Did you know it's now possible to have 2 QuickBooks files open at the same time? All you have to do is double click your QuickBooks icon after you already have one file open. A new 'Secondary' window will appear and voila!

About MENDELSON CONSULTING...

Founded in 1992, Mendelson Consulting specializes in QuickBooks Solutions and Information Technology consulting services.  Mendelson Consulting was recognized with prestigious distinctions awarded by Accounting Technology magazine: 'Killer VAR', acknowledging our commitment and character as a value-added-reselling (VAR) organization, and 'Technology Pacesetter', recognizing our reputation among peers and participation on advisory boards and speaker panels at industry events.  We were also recognized as part of Bob Scott's Insights 'VAR Stars' for our accomplishments in mid-market financial software.

We were the first charter member of the Intuit Solutions Provider Program.  Mario Nowogrodzki served on the Intuit Solutions Provider Program Advisory Council--the only consultant in the nation to serve since program inception, for three consecutive terms.

From humble beginnings...

Gazing at the Atlantic Ocean, sitting at the bedroom desk in my Miami Beach apartment, I filed the Articles of Incorporation of Mendelson Consulting.  That was in January 1992.

Good memories back then -- literally:  Among the first business activities of the company was selling memory modules (back then called "SIMMs", for those seeking technology nostalgia).  Selling them online.  Yes, even when there was no World Wide Web, there was Usenet and other popular "BBS"s (Bulletin Board Services, again for those that enjoy tech nostalgia); that's where the original internet marketing was back then.  Talk about SEO... Downloading and uploading message board posts using my 2400-baud modem -- an overnight job every night.  I finally did upgrade to a 14400 and eventually to a 57600-baud modem, before the days of high speed internet (!!)  But those were the "humble" beginnings...

Mendelson Consulting quickly evolved into technology consulting services, setting up and supporting computer networks and related technologies.  At the same time, consulting on accounting systems, beginning with SBT Accounting, and DacEasy, then Peachtree, and eventually QuickBooks!  The QuickBooks [r]evolution meant being more involved in the speaking circuits, including consultant conferences and CPA events, as well as authoring training materials and technology articles, and being fortunate of literally covering the globe for training and consulting opportunities.  Now we gaze at every ocean, seeing opportunities in all corners of the world.

I personally thank you for making these twenty years a reality.

How many backups should I have?

I love it when clients ask me that question.  At least they understand the importance of backing up their company data.  Three is the magic number.  The important item to remember about backups is they are based on location, not on how many you have.  It does not matter if you have six backups stacked on top of your office server -- if a fire burns down the building, all six backups are gone.  You might as well have never backed up to begin with.  Location is paramount in recovering your data after a catastrophic data loss.  We recommend one should be onsite; one should be offsite; and one should be in the cloud.

Another question that users ask is "how often should I backup?"  Backup as often as possible.  We setup one client's server to backup every 30 minutes (sounds exaggerated, but very needed in some cases).  Old backups are less valuable as time goes by.  You should always have a few old ones, but they are less valuable as the one you just generated an hour ago.  Give us a call for recommendations.  We specialize in setting your company data in several safe locations, including "THE CLOUD."
Looking Forward to Spring

For over 200 years, the groundhog has been a ceremonial diviner of the weather. Groundhog Day is a celebration that just about anyone can enjoy. Held annually, on February 2, it's a chance to enjoy the last few days of winter and celebrate the beginning of spring. Even though the event is largely good fun, it has not stopped a few people from checking the groundhog's accuracy in predicting the end of winter.
Apparently, Punxsutawney Phil (maybe the most famous groundhog) takes his meteorology seriously. According to the research of Middleburry College economics professor Paul Sommers, Punxsutawney Phil's weather forecast was accurate a surprisingly high 70.4% of the time! While that's not exactly pin-point accuracy, it is a passing grade. While it might still seem strange to some, it's a great deal of fun and as far as followers are concerned, the groundhogs are all 100% accurate.
