QuickBooks Tip
Desktop Preferences
Do you like to leave what you're working on in QuickBooks open so you can get right back to it? Do you like to start fresh every morning and just see your home page? Do you like to open the same windows every time you open QuickBooks? Whatever your preference is, QuickBooks can make it happen.
Go to Edit, Preferences, then Desktop View, and you can choose the style you want. You can choose 'Save when closing company' which will save your open windows when you close QuickBooks. Or choose 'Don't save the desktop' so you always open QuickBooks to your home page. You can even choose 'Save current desktop' and QuickBooks will open to that every time you log in. This option is especially helpful if you want to look at certain reports or anything in particular every day -- it will save you the time of manually having to open them every day.

How the Turkey has Fallen
1782 was a big year for the bald eagle, but not so much for the turkey. That was the year that the bald eagle was chosen as our national bird, but not everyone was happy about it. Benjamin Franklin was very opposed to the bald eagle representing his country. He felt the bird was of "bad moral character" and also said, "For a truth, the turkey is in comparison a much more respectable bird, and withal a true original native of America."
Can you imagine seeing a turkey on coins, emblems, or posters representing our country? Can you imagine a turkey representing anything besides Thanksgiving? Turkeys went from being a contender for national symbol to being on 91% of American dinner tables Thanksgiving night! What a turnaround. Here are more interesting facts about our beloved thanksgiving bird...
- Turkeys can drown if they look up while it's raining.
- Domesticated turkeys can't fly, but wild turkeys can fly over 55mph for short distances. And a spooked turkey can run at speeds of up to 20 miles per hour.
- A 16-week-old turkey is called a "fryer." A five to seven month old turkey is called a young "roaster" (destined for the dinner table, ha!)
- Turkeys can have heart attacks. Apparently when the Air Force conducted test runs and broke the sound barrier, fields of turkeys would drop dead. (Hopefully those tests were flown near Thanksgiving time, ha again!)
- A 15 pound turkey usually has about 70 percent white meat and 30 percent dark meat.
- The heaviest turkey ever raised was 86 pounds, about the size of a large dog.
